Fellas, I wasn't too pleased with my shave this morning. It was more of a "live and learn" experience than the enjoyment we get as we shave....the positive achievement. I wouldn't say it was LOUSY, but I spent almost the entire shave wondering what I was doing wrong, and how to improve the next one. Or should I say, the next one using MWF. I had too much water on the soap right at the beginning. I struggled through the shave, eventually completing it to my satisfaction with 3 passes. The first one was like shaving with invisible foam, which I've done twice before, with Rise and Agadir. I decided after using them that I kinda prefer SEEING what I'm shaving. I really need to negotiate this "too much water on the MWF" problem next time I use it. I was so frustrated that I decided to go to my next shave combo after just the one shave with MWF. Tallow works much better for me(and I bet for all of you too). But saying that, I never had this problem with 3x-milled soaps(like my Razorock Lime Burst). I hope I can solve this problem soon as I was thinking about getting a small-sized Bill Neumann soap(next year of couse....all right @Primotenore, no NB jokes please....just kidding). I think the Bill Neumann soaps look just like MWF. Williams would be another clone of MWF&Bill Neumann(course Williams came before the others, so "clone" is the wrong word here). I may decide to "flip" the A.S. I used-too strong for me, thus it may be for others top(Clubman Reserve Whiskey Woods). Anyway.....for today's shave-well, I look&feel manageable enough given the water problem, so I'll say Pretty Excellent.

It's not what many think. The bar looks nothing like the set of Cheers. To top it off, nobody knew my name.

Well, that's weird...doing the show in a bar that doesn't look like the real one.

I know this a focus group but I have to admit I strayed from the 1 of each item rule. My Taconic soap sampler ran out which happened to be urban woods. I was brush lathering it and have to admit it makes a really good slick lather. As far as scent goes I am not much into stinky stuff as long as it isn't unpleasant to the nose then I don't care. Next up their Bay Rum pump soap.

I guess this technically counts as a product focus since it is still Taconic and since it is also a pump soap just trading one stinkiness for another.

Sorry about the lack of enjoyment in today's shave Paul. If you had too much water the best thing you can do is go back to the puck and load more product until you get the ratio you want and can enjoy the shave. Hope you have a great day!

Yeah exactly. It is a lot easier to thicken up watery lather than to thin out an already too thick later. Usually circular strokes with the brush on the face then painting the lather thickens it up fairly quickly. Only time I add soap is if I can see skin still then it is back to the bowl for more soap and/or water.

Thanks, Dave, but a lot is just gratitude for reaching my current age. I’ll be 74 in a few weeks, and am grateful for a great business career, my wonderful family and friends, and at least for the last two years or so, this great collection of guys! While I’m probably the oldest on the crew, I appreciate not being treated that way!

Patchouli doesn't bother me because I like Stirling Glastonbury.
Great post and shave Jeff! CMon razors don't get the respect they deserve. They truly are sleepers in this community. To all straight shavers, if you can pick up a CMon straight for under 40 dollars that is shave ready, then grab it. You will not be disappointed.
