A blog that should be popular among regulars to this thread. Springfield Punx - with lots of DH.

    yeup

it's "precipitating" again now, but the radars show it to be about all gone.

of course, this is the kind of "wintry weather" I always expect when they say we're going to get it.

    I think someone did

would that not be DW? (you'll have to forgive me if that's a dumb question, I've never seen Dr. Who, and never even heard of it til it's discussion somewhere in history of the HYD thread)

Sorry - was trying to enter something more clear and was distracted. I meant to say DW. I'm doing some stuff at work that has the initials DH and they got swapped in my head.

If you haven't seen any Doctor Who, I highly recommend correcting that travesty at your earliest convience. I know you can watch episodes on Netflix, and your local library should have some DVD's. If you have the option I recommend trying out Eccleston or Tennant as The Doctor (the newer series, but not the current Doctor).

+1000, but I'd suggest you start with the older material. Some of Tom Baker's stuff from the 70s is just plain awesome. The Ark in Space trilogy is a great place to start. If you must do the new stuff, they go with Eccleston. Tennant's good, too, but the later episodes veer heavily into soap opera territory.

I suggest the newer material for three reasons:
    1) It's much easier to find
    2) Before Matt Smith, it's consistantly good. I think Matt's getting better over time, but his first few episodes he didn't seem to have the role figured out. Amy and Rory don't help. But River makes up for all of that in the episodes she's in.
    3) Some of the older Doctors have a style that isn't very accessible to modern audiences. Davison, Tom Baker, and Pertwee are the most accessible IMHO (with honorable mention to McCoy). I think most of it comes from the pacing which is much slower in older episodes, which gets exagerated by Doctors with a very slow, methodical demeanor. McCoy did have the better (faster) pacing, but the writing in the later portion of his tenure wasn't very good. OTOH, some of the new series episode push the pacing faster than I like.

Starting with the new, and then getting into the old is what I'd suggest, too. Just not the oldest stuff.

On a completely different note, just added Ark In Space to my Watch Instantly queue.

    Oh wait.....:D

no, it's not missing because I think it's funny, I was looking for it because I think it's funny.

but, if it's missing, then it's for good reason, and no big deal.

I hope you like the Ark in Space series as much as I did.

Totally agreed about the oldest Doctor material. William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton's existing episodes have a certain kind of charm but it can be hard to find. My old avatar was from the second Who episode ever- the one that introduced the Daleks. It's a fun episode if you love the Doctor but it would be really hard to enjoy if you're just getting to know the series.

I enjoyed it when I was younger. Wish it all was available Watch Instantly. Can't even get the first Tom Baker episode on WI, just DVD.

I have a friend who just discovered The Doctor. He wanted to see it all from the very beginning. Yeah....
One Hartnell episode was mostly composed of still pictures that were taken at the time of filming. The actual episode film had been lost. That was funny, and a bit rough to watch. Not to mention, the female "companions" get a bit on my nerves. "Oh no, I'm scared, I can't do it!" *high pitched hysterical screams* (Even though they just proved how smart and capable they were in the last episode. Again and again.)
