My dad as an Ipad its really cool.
I want to get a xoom. I never liked blackberries interface on phones, but I really like my captivates touch screen. When the xoom comes out Ill probably pick one up.

the biggest factor with the Xoom is the thus-far only rumored price of $799.
Unless that's the highest memory, 3G, top of the line version, with others below, it ain't gonna sell too well, not when a person can get a 1st Gen Ipad for probably $200 in a couple of months.

I'll be surprised if that isn't the top model, but I am surprised more prices/rumors haven't leaked by now

Xoom is gonna be way out of my price line. But then, I just plopped $400 on computer parts that could have gone towards a Xoom....

Radidio Shed in the mall has the Pandigital Novel for 139 right now...

Had to resist the urge to pull the trigger on that one.

For about $140, sears had this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOyoNEwwpa0

    That too was rather tempting.

We settled on a mattress. I think it's a knock-off of a bigger name brand but it's got the independent coil system. It's medium/firm with a nice soft padded top. We layed down on it for about 10 minutes or so, and I nearly drifted off to sleep, so it was tres comfortable. The best part was that the design makes it so that when one of us moves, the other can't feel it. We're upgrading from a full to a queen! We're going to get a new frame, but it will still work with our old head and footboards, though the mattress may stick out a little on the sides--it's okay though, the head and footboard are very sentimental to TWGW. At any rate, mattress, boxspring, special frame: just over $500. Not too shabby. That's actually on the low end of what I was expecting to pay for just a mattress, so I'm pretty happy with it; even if it means that we have to buy all new sheets.

Went to do taxes today, got in to a packed room.

50 minutes later they call my name.

    10 minutes later "You owe...."

    What. The. Frakkin'. Frak?

And the hits just keep on coming....

    ugh... sorry to hear that..

I just spent two hours working on the deck again. Nothing as dramatic as last time.. just chipping away at 3 inches of ice with a claw hammer trying to make a channel for the melt water to use... I am exhausted. oops... my hands are now shaking and burning... I guess I worked too long in the ice...

Well today was a money spending day... in a good way, I suppose. We had to return a set of blinds we bought last night because they were too small. We also went all over creation looking for some bedding for the new mattress we're picking up next week. We finally settled on a really nice set that had a full set of 250 thread count cotton sheets, a comforter, some shams, and a bed skirt. It's very nice, and actually way out of our usual price range, but it was 50% off--still more than we would normally pay, but we decided to splurge... when it comes to sleeping, it's worth the extravagance.

TWGW got a new computer (selling old, still useful computer to aunt for a minimal amount to help differ the cost of new comp and to help aunt who is still running win98)--so far it's pretty nice, she's been putting it in order all evening. Apparently, this was the solution required to get Adobe Digital Editions to function properly. She also got a vintage purse and a nice old backgammon set.

Got a new climbing tower for Licroice, and she's loving it with a passion--it's got a dangly thing with feathers on it.

Ran into my sis-in-law, and she gave me my birthday present from my mom-in-law...$45! I'm not sure what to spend it on. I almost spent it on a little dj mixing station for the computer, kind of like my old mixman--which I enjoyed immensely back in my win98 days. It's actually pretty neat, and for $49 it looks like it might be a great little toy, but in the end, I can't really say I'd use it enough to justify buying it.

I've got to say, I'm feeling a little jealous of the ladies in my house. They got a crapload of cool new stuff, and I got a day of shopping. I know, I should be grateful that I'm able to get a new bed, but really, it's hard to feel all excited about that--especially since I know the work that's going to be involved in bringing it home and setting it up. I know, I should be grateful that I got birthday money--but what can I spend $45 on that isn't practical? (I feel sort of obligated to spend birthday money on something fun rather than entirely needed.)

I dunno, tomorrow is going to be filled with the joys of hanging new blinds, I'm sure. whooptie-frikken-doo.

I'm just kind of morose, I guess. I mean, I'm happy for everybody else, but I just feel a little left out. I know, it's stupid. I've got nothing but 1st world problems (as opposed to 3rd world), and I don't have to dig out ice on my patio, I don't have bruises from falling down stairs, I didn't have to pay in on taxes (quite the opposite, really). I don't have diabetes (yet--though my eating habits aren't helping), either. In fact, I've got a lot to be thankful for--I'm truly blessed with great friends, good family, and a God who loves me far more than I deserve.

And yet... I'm kind of bummed.

tl;dr: Life is magnificent; I'm melancholy.

edit: Holy crap that's a wall of text. Sorry about that. I also wanted to mention that I saw a rolls razor today in a flea market that had a decent strop and the stone looked to be in okay condition (as far as I could tell under the glass) and it had the purple lined case (it had seen better days) complete with some of the paperwork and a piece of silk(?). $65--too rich for my blood, though the razor looked to be in decent shape. and the razor case itself looked nice and shiny.

yeah, I kinda get that way a lot of times too. it is totally just wrong mindset, and can lead to "oversteering" in the opposite direction if not recognized, but it's still that "this kinda sucks even though it really doesn't, it still feels like it does"

    yup

When I wasn't working out on the deck, I was grading yesterday. Chipping off ice became therapy to relieve frustration after each set of tests or labs. Here are two examples of a common answers that I saw....

Question: "If an object is moving at a constant speed, can it still be accelerating?"
Answer: "Yes, it can speed up or slow down while going a constant speed"

Question: "Change your procedure so that the motors turn at different speeds. Download and run the procedure. What are your observations?"
Answer: " It causes it to do it different than it did it when it did it before."

When my wife got home at 5 from her conference, I got to go out with some friends and stood around in the snow around a fire pit, grilling brats, drinking some local brew, and swapping stories until midnight. All in all, it worked out to be a pretty good day.

    How's Your Day? Feb 14 - Feb 20

    Bleh.

Merry Valentines, Happy 2nd month of the year....whatever

Wife has a doctor's appointment tomorrow. That's how our Valentine's Day is going to be.

I genuinely hope everyone else's is much, much better.

I also genuinely hope the doctor's office will barter shave goods instead of money for payment, cuz we just ain't got it right now.

There's my day....sorry to be a buzzkill, but my give-a-darn is broken, and I'm out of Darnitol.

Why is the rum always gone....

If you don't have rum, try a good beer!

don't really care for beer...or alcohol in general, for that matter. Though I have had a couple of wine coolers (I know, basically flavored beer), some rum and Coke, and wine on occasion, I'm just not really a "drinker", socially or otherwise (not that there's ever really been any "social" for me to take part of :ashamed001)

But the past couple months has really had me considering it....

Man--going on 10 years dry. You guys talking about drinks has me thinking about Rum & Ginger Ale--good stuff. Then there was Killian's Red or Heineken--served just chilled enough that there's a little sweat on the bottle--with chicken and bread. Oh man, the mouth waters just thinking about it.

The fact that it's 8:32 am on a monday, and I can think so fondly about warm Heineken should tell you why I'm going on 10 years dry.
