I felt the same about Voskhods. I did a focus with them this past October. Turns out it was me, they are fine blades. Should you revisit the Derby's I'd be curious if your opinion changes.

i like to place myself as a young guy in the 60s who just got a new gillette and a tuck of blades ..i doubt many folks had more than 3 razors at any given point in those days..it's been a privilege for me to be able to try almost every model they ever made and own many as well.,well shy of a toggle ,etc..even when they were new many folks couldn't afford an aristocrat or president set..most folks after the great depression couldn't buy a new deluxe set but used a new lc or goodwill..coupled with today's modern blades..;)..well lets say it's been a fun time,no regrets for the time and money invested..:)..i also think that if one has a basic relationship with a gillette razor they can understand and/or appreciate the differences with a different razor choice..:)

i have retried a derby green blade recently since my technique has improved and i have a 2 or so tucks left..on first pass /fresh blade it was an improvement from my newbie days, but still felt a little tuggy.could be phycological but the current blade was reloaded and back to normal..derby premium blades however felt much nicer..most of the blades i enjoy are in the upper range of sharpness but not feather sharp.:)

I like Feathers a lot. They do feel like they cut through my whiskers better than other blades. They're no more likely to cause cuts or irritation than any other blade in my experience. Worth giving a try when you get a chance.

Today, I can say that I'm a young guy in the 60's. Lol!
On a serious note, your Gillette knowledge appreciation is quite daunting Gary.

on another note.i truly appreciate ones love for straight razor shaving.in theory the blade is never the same twice.the blade's physical characteristics change in miniscule amounts every time it's honed or refreshed.:)..i would find blade renewal/maintenance daunting..;)

That's the beauty of wetshaving. There's enough variety of razors that pose challenges to those who have the courage to enter the stage of traditional shaving.

Why don’t you just go to Jiffy Lube? :happy102:

In the words of Ralph Kramden, "You're a regular riot!" I will throw in a Har-de-har-har as well.

I did choose my words carefully. It does take courage to go from carts to DE or SE razors because a shaver is going into uncharted waters. It is the same for those going from a safety to straights/shavettes.
