    You know what I miss?

I miss Norm McDonald impersonating Burt Reynolds.

    In other news:

    This is a neat idea.

I take it that most viruses involve clicking on things, running things (embedded video), or downloading things. So if you don't do these particular activities, will a computer stay virus free?

This is a long way of asking if it's common for computers to get infected with viruses without user misbehavior.

dude. I am there with you. It went away after I ate lunch. No need for aspirin.

I miss his Bob Dole. Pure genius.

If you have up to date anti-virus and a good firewall, it shouldn't. But it can.

If clicking on things was user misbehavior, using a mouse would make you a rat

This day is in the crapper. It started two days ago. I work two part time jobs. One of them is very part time. I drive a sweeper truck and clean parking lots 2 to 3 nights a week 4 hours each night. So I show up for work and the truck is out of fuel. I have no means to put fuel in it so I go back home. So I call in the next day and I am assured that there will be fuel when I come in. So I go down to work and no fuel again. Now I am pissed so I leave a huge message on the bosses phone and go home. I go to bed - to angry to sleep - get up this morniing to go to job # 2 and find out the schedule was changed and now I don't work until tomorrow. That make three trips to work burning up my gas at $3.45 a gallon just to turn around and go back home. Maybe I should just stay in bed.:mad::mad:

Nothing like Thursday night at the dentists...

got the whole... "even one sip of pop will cause acid to eat at your teeth for 30 minutes" lecture and a condescending I told you so tone when it was decided that I need to go back for fillings. ugh...

I know the feeling. You just want to grab the doc by the lapels and say, "Listen... I'm a grown man. I know what I'm supposed to do, and you know what I'm supposed to do. We both also know that it isn't going to happen. I have the habits I have, and that isn't likely to change. I'm not paying you for condescension, I'm paying you for repairs. The worse shape my teeth are in, the more visits I make to you. Patch what holes you can, pull what teeth you must, but if I get one more lecture on 'proper' dental care, I won't be the only one walking out of here needing new teeth."

    Or is that just me?

I've seriously considered finding a dentist who will just pull all my teeth and give me a full set of dentures. My dad did it, and he said he wished he had done it 20 years earlier.

    Boot update:
Got my boots today! They're pretty cool, and they fit great! These boots are not made in the US like their premium lines are, but I suspected that might be the case, so I'm not too upset about that. It's obvious that these are their lower end boots and that they are not meant for combat. They're still nice. I knew when I ordered them, that the finish would be less than perfect, and I'm okay with the few flaws in the finish--I'll probably post pictures on my blog sometime this weekend. There is a spot on one of the cuffs where the leather has a pretty severe wrinkle in it, and it does kind of detract from the look of the boot. I'm not sure if I want to make an issue of it, or just live with it. I might send a picture to the company and ask if they have any tips for how to remove the crease. It's in a place where two pieces of leather have been glued together, back to back, so I'm not sure if there is much that can be done to fix it. At any rate for about $60 including shipping, these are still fine costume boots, and I think they'll do nicely.

    uuggghhhh......
That would definitely cause Evil JoAnna to appear, if it happened to me. But I have a low stupidity threshold. :ashamed001

At any rate, tomorrow is another day, huh? :agelic13

Micah, if you get a chance (and haven't already), listen/watch a TWiG (This Week in Google) podcast....holy carp one of the guys sounds exactly....not close, exactly....like Doug, I swear. Voice, speech, pattern, everything (except the "geek-speak" part :D)

    seriously

I've listened to TWiT a few times, but I've never checked out TWiG... I'll get on it, ASAP.

edit: I think you have your subwoofer cranked up too high again. Back it off until you stop getting that sick feeling in your stomach...

Doug's voice is way lower than those guys... if you have your subwoofer cranked up to the point where it is such low frequency that it's making you nauseous (the range Doug's voice falls in), then you've got it turned too low.

What I'm trying to say is, the guys I heard talked like doug, but they weren't nearly low enough.

ahh, gotcha...except, I have to turn the bass all the down in order for the podcasts to be audible, so there's basically no bass.

you may not have heard the one guy in particular, I've only listened to 3 of them so far, and he's only been on two, so I don't know if he's a regular or not.
and, it's a given that his voice won't be as low as Doug's - either by nature, or by post-production editing/tweaking. But it's close enough that the first time I heard it, I took a tympanic double-take :D
But it's not just voice - intonation, inflection, cadence of speech; it kinda freaked me out. No wonder we haven't heard from Doug in The Den lately, he's been recording podcasts when he hasn't been, you know, uber busy getting used to and learning the ropes of teaching at college :rofl

EDIT: also you must take into account you know Doug better than I, and thus what may sound similar to me probably won't to you.

I think I just spent more time getting a printer to work than it took to assemble the computer and install XP....

For some reason XP has decided to make the boot drive H: and the printer will not accept that option.

    Meanwhile in a happier place...
