Aaah. Windows 7. I got a Win 7 install disk for really cheap (it's a legal copy!) but just never got around to installing it. My laptop is fine running Vista (I know, I know). I've been thinking of installing some version of Linux to my Netbook, though. Vista really doesn't play well with an underpowered netbook.

Did the hosing on the wife's computer come after the update? Three cheers for Microsoft.

 

Nah, I'm pretty sure it was PEBKAC... but we got it all sorted out. I think we're going to give it a few days before re-running the service pack though... if history tells me anything, it's to give them a chance to put up a revision to the service pack.

 

And I thought my pirate boot buying experience was a shining example of customer service.

 

Well, it looks like Gawker is starting to listen to their users a little.

They finally added a scroll bar to the right frame so those of us on laptops could navigate the site a bit better. While it's too little to late for lifehacker and gizmodo, at least it's a bit of a potential reprieve for iO9. It's the only one I haven't found a suitable replacement for.

pretty much. it's difficult as heck, but kinda fun

yes indeedy, I've been contemplating this greatly ever since I saw the prices of the Xoom and Samsung tablets. I'm certain they're great hardware, and amazing devices, and probably worth the price, but it's unjustifiable to me....especially when I can get two Nook colors for less than the cost of the Xoom.

UPDATE: this state certainly makes the case much more justifiable:

Update II: If it runs flash, that is the other hurdle. My wife wants to do her grades on my Novel, but it won't do flash (I'm assuming, haven't had time to double check). There's a couple of other sites she wants to use it mainly for, but it won't currently do it. If the Nook Color will, well then....

Update II-b: looks like it's going to still be a bit of a wait....

The tragedy of Bob is that it wasn't an altogether bad idea... It was just implemented so poorly. Of course, the biggest factor was that technology just wasn't ready for it. I mean, really, who doesn't want a Jarvis?
