That is a Joseph Rodgers & Sons. My guess is late 19th century. It measures in as 4/8 and shows very little signs of wear. Unfortunately, that devil's spit on the face of the blade is pretty hard to get out if you are averse to heavy buffing as I am. I've polished out a good deal of the worst of it using Simichrome, but it still leaves behind unsightly scarring.
Wet/Dry sandpaper progressions can do wonders for that blade, and faster than just polish. I 've restored razors worse looking than that. polish ..
I have used my Dremel with cloth wheel and Autosol ( for polishing metal ) works fine. Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
I gave up on Dremel Tools, a long time ago. I bought a bench buffing wheel. Much much easier to control, faster, and better results. But, for deeper pitting, hand sanding is about the only way to go, unless you have a belt driven sander.
Here's a French one. The grain pattern is difficult to see. It's least difficult to see above the hinge pin and near the wedge pin. The ivory is thick. The pins are heavily collared. The space washers are thick. The hinge pin is tight and elastic so that the scales flex to follow the taper of the shank when the razor is opened or closed. I haven't shaved with it yet. And it has an ivory wedge.
I have/had a MK 32 with those thick, collared ivory. Jernbolaget used them too according to folks more knowledgeable than I am.
Braver than me. I'm way too paranoid about either digging in too hard or losing my grip to use a buffing wheel. I've got a cute little bench grinder that I could probably fit with a buffing wheel, but with regard to antique razors, not the direction I want to go.
Those are all gorgeous! I especially love the way that Klas looks. Such elegant lines. It reminds me of the sleeker cars of the 30's, like an Auburn boat-tail speedster. Sent from my LGUS992 using Tapatalk
Really nice collection! Congrats. I have 4 razors with Ivory scales. 3 CVH and one FW Söderén. Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
Bump. It's been a while since anyone has contributed their new found Ivory Scaled razors to this thread. Me, I like to keep certain razkrs in particular threads, so looking for them is easier.
Well, I have at least one more Brookes and Crookes to make a pair, but the second is a bit off on the hinge pin. Both from Griffith.
