    Now this is good news.

If the Motorola Xoom Android 3.0 Honeycomb wifi only model tablet is too much for you at $599 (like it is for me), here's a picture of an ad at Sam's for a much more reasonably priced Xoom with Android 2.0 Homeycomb for $539 :happy102

They basically have. Except it was called piranha 3d. Same sort of movie except that it had lots of piranhas and not a giant shark. Was spring break and such. It is a pretty simular movie but not a remake.

sol92258 I have no earthly idea

but that was a remake of the original piranha movie :D

I have read reviews of it that basically compared it more to Jaws than the original Piranha though, oddly enough.

Deep Blue Sea was kinda closest thing to a Jaws remake than anything so far. There's so many similarities and "scene redos" that it makes my head spin...but I liked the movie.

If they did a new sequel (ignoring the 3rd and 4th), I'd be okay with that. But remakes/retellings of such movies me no-a like-a.

Comic book movies are different to me. I liked the Batman reboot.

But remakes of classic movies, usually based on novels or books, I just don't like.

But I'm weird like that, I guess

I agree, Jaws was perfect the first time and doesn't need anyone messing with it. At most, add a little CGI to a few shark scenes on a re-release. But don't do a remake with bad acting and crazy good special effects like 90% of Hollywood movies today.

    exactly. exactly this.

if they did do some CGI touch-ups, just don't overdo it, a la Star Wars original trilogy, or E.T. - it seriously kills the rest of the movie for me

    yup, yup.

I don't care what they want to call it; a re-visionalization, re-imaging, whatever. If it has the same name, same plot, it is a re-make, and some of those should just be left alone!

Have I mentioned my general dislike of Johnny Depp? Especially when Tim Burton dresses him up in costumes?

Some should be left. But some of them can be remade and are really good. However most of the remakes are pretty bad. I just watched the remake of Let the Right One In. It was still a pretty good better but not as good as the original.

I'm not going to go overboard... I'll simply state that I'm a Burton fan, and I'm a Depp fan, and the two combined are as like peanut-butter and chocolate as our generation can hope to ask for. Her Highness is more than welcome to dislike them both, and I'm okay with [slash]her being wrong[/slash] her viewpoint on this.

All this talk about remakes reminds me of one of my pet theories, however:

Every movie made in the last 25 years has just been a remake of Logan's Run. They're working on a remake of Logan's Run, I'm told. Sadly, it will probably be the only movie made in the last 25 that bares no resemblance whatsoever to the original Logan's Run.

My opinion is certainly not the majority's opinion, I am aware.

However, their relationship is an odd one, IMO. And they have molested enough of my childhood movies, that I do not like them.

That is all. You may continue.

now that's an interesting theory. Leonardo "I'm a growing pain who shoulda stayed on the Titanic" DiCaprio was attached to that remake for awhile.

I used to be a big fan of the original. Even got my gf at the time to take me out to the Dallas/ Fort Worth water gardens where part of it was filmed. I read all the books (don't do it, they aren't as good as the movie). I eventually got tired of it.

The original is directly inspired by the 60s ("don't trust anyone over 30" and all the counter-cultural rebellions: Weathermen underground, etc... ). I don't think it can be remade. They could give it to Michael Bay, though, and let him blow stuff up for an hour. I might go see that.

    I can relate.

I'd like to see them get him to do a Pride and Prejudice remake.

...if you know what I mean.

And now, from the "Holy Crap What Am I Doing With My Life" Department:

    okay, the movie "Unstoppable".

Great movie, I can't believe it's already out on DVD, it seems like only a few weeks ago my wife and I went to see it in the theater. I know video release times are getting shorter (for some movies), but man that seems really short for a blockbuster-ish movie. I'd probably not be so surprised if I looked up release date of it, but it's just not worth the time.

Whole point being, I remember a few curse words, but nothing I wouldn't (sadly enough) expect in an intense thriller such as this. We're considering showing it to the high school students to finish off the day after testing this week, it's PG-13, and most have probably already seen it, but I did a little research on it and it disturbs me how much I missed in the language department. It's so disturbing how desensitized we get to this crap.
Be it language, nudity, sex, moral/ethical issues, and for people like me, which I'd say the vast majority of frequenters to this thread are, spiritual issues.

I hate to say "it's nothing they've never seen/done/heard/said" already, but it is the commonly accepted standard I guess.

Either way, the movie was deemed acceptable to use, is PG-13, and we'll probably be showing it, so it's kind of a moot point, but wanted to see what y'all thought.

    Unstoppable?

Somehow this one has passed by me. Upon a cursory IMDB search, I see that it has Denzel Washington in it.

Does he play a self-righteous, angry African-American man who breaks the law but is morally justified? I bet he broodingly stares intently at the camera over his shoulder at least once in the movie. How many scenes does he wear a Hawaiian shirt (most likely blue) in?

That man is almost as typecast as Samuel (never forget to say the) L. Jackson.

sol92258 I have no earthly idea

    :happy102
Exactly. He's not angry, though he is still "African-American", does break a command, but not the law, and is morally justified. And does stare at the camera, but is wearing a work uniform.

Ain't is sad how well a character can be described without ever seeing the movie?

My wife and I have tried to go watch "Unknown" a couple of times, but it hasn't worked out yet. And yet, we still know which of the two Liam Neeson characters will be portrayed :happy097 (Hint: it's not the wizened, sword wielding teacher/mentor one)

EDIT 1: Speaking of Samuel L. "monkey fightin' snakes" Jackson, I was surprised to see him show up in Iron Man 2 when we (finally) got to finish watching it last night (note to self: use Redbox, not Blockbuster Express, from now on) (another note to self: watch more movies with Scarlett Johansson in it)

EDIT 2: RE: Scarlett Johansson - now my mind is back to fruit roll-ups again....but it's okay, I like it...."Ah like it ah-loht" :D

Ahhhh ScarJo--for some reason, I never recognize her on sight. I always ask "WHO is THAT!?"

To which TWGW always replies, "It's Scarlett Johansen--why don't you ever recognize her?"

"I dunno, but man, she's hot!"

I'm quoting this again, only because I'm just now getting around to my daily dose of webcomics, and today's Dinosaur Comic was rather relevant :D
