calling all my science nerds. I just got a fair deal on a Gillette Fat boy, I am aware that the fat boy is stamped brass, plated in Nickle. I'm just not exactly sure if you can polish nickle like you can with the aluminum super speeds. my type of polish is "blue magic" I just don't wanna strip the plating like a gold gillette. I know it already looks pretty shinny, I just like to tinker and when old Gillettes start to look "old" I like to make them look "new"

Thanks Joe. It was sunny and around 50F today, so it was nice being outside. I call that a gift in the middle of January.

    Tuxedo Synthetic brush
Col. Conk Glycerin based Bay Rum Soap
    Gillette C1 Flair Tip
    Personna Blue (2)
Proraso Green toning lotion w/menthol & eucalyptus

    no photo again
    in a rush this morning

Extended a day over one use on this blade.

Avoided ATG work on the delicate lower neck.

I could regularly get 2 uses per blade as long as I did this. Maybe I’ll test blades at 2 and follow this pattern on the second use.

My parents were Bruins fans and high schoolers in the Boston area when it happened. They told me all about it when I was growing up.

Congrats Myles. That's an iconic find for your Den. We can scoop up these vintage Gillettes with relative ease now. I wonder if they'll be hard to find in a few years, with most of them being locked up in wet shavers' collections? Who knows, but at least you have some nice razors that should last you for a lifetime.

I have several Gillette Fatboys and Slims. I just gave 'em a good cleaning and put 'em to work. They look pretty good at that point. I don't think you'll get a high shine by polishing it. If anything, I'd polish it very lightly.

Edit: I just went back and saw the photo you posted. Your Fatboy looks almost new! Don't think you could do much better with polish. Wow! Nice find.

I've always used just whitening toothpaste to polish razors and it works well.

Blue Magic states that it is a non-abrasive cream. It works on all metals. The company states that it works great on gold, sterling silver, copper, brass and aluminum. Although it doesn't say nickel, I would think it would work without any problems. I would test it out by using a little at the bottom of the handle so that it wouldn't be obvious if there was a problem.

Gotcha, yea I may not bother with polishing If it's going to be a daily shaver (which it will) then it's just going to be constantly left with at least some soap scum. the seller states there is some plate loss on the doors but it is almost undetectable based off of the pictures and the quality of the pics are pretty good. but yea I have plenty of razors at this point no need to buy anymore. They will make cool hand me downs for my kids one day. "This was what your dad used when he was younger" even though they were made wayyy before my generation.

That sounds like it would work well. I hit mine with a toothbrush and Dawn, drop 'em in a heated ultrasonic cleaner ($30 Harbor Freight special) with more Dawn, and then a soak in Barbicide. They all cleaned up pretty good.
