been a hellacious few days here in my measly existence, perhaps I'll get more time to share later, but persistent headache and "this needed to be done yesterday" mentality by many around me all weekend has me kinda bleh

Nice first day at work. Had a couple unexpected perks (like getting a new pair of steel toes without having to pay for them). Plus, I can say I calibrated probes today.

Glad things are looking up for you Erik!

My PSPT on the other hand...

Actually it wasn't as bad as some have been. Although, gearing up for this online testing business has been a hassle.

Though I did get to watch "In Like Flint" on Netflix tonight. The man who out-Bond's Bond. It's quite fun. Campy, cheesy fun.

Then I found out my cat has worms.

So it's been kind of rollercoastery around here.

    Morning everyone!

Well made it through PSPT fine enough. Nothing too out of the ordinary for a PSPT to report on.

Looks like it is going to be a busy, but survivable week.

Been playing Plants vs. Zombies. That Crazy Dave is a veritable gold mine!

Good morning all and I wish everyone a great day; we have a storm that started around 5 am but is calming down now. It looks like a busy day for me as well.....

    Craptastic Morning is Craptastic

what a crapa&% start of a day....been way too many of them here lately to have not had any kind of really good news or happenings (out of the ordinary ones, anyway...besides everyday, oft taken for granted blessings)

Starting off behind on time - apparently I sleep-swiped the screen to turn off the alarm on my phone this morning, which is both bad if I've actually learned to do that, and downright amazing in its own right, consider how tricky it is to turn off when I'm fully awake

Then a whole myriad of out-of-the-ordinary thing after the other, all of which add to the late start, then the dog running down the road, then the coffee maker making a mess all over the counter, then the gas company sending folks to our door to inform us they're turning off the gas down the street so they can to maintenance work....which means I need to turn off the gas to the furnace and water heater, the house doesn't turn into a giant gas-filled structure just waiting for a spark - this naturally, when I have 5 minutes to be 20 minutes down the road. Possibly overkill, but why take chances on a day like today is already started

Then, somehow, my lunchbox ends up flying across the driveway off the end of my foot....

Oh, did I mention my coffee is sitting on the counter? Next to my breakfast?

    20 miles away?

Ooh, don't forget the idiot friend calling with a problem that should really have been directed to techsupport to start with!

Hang in there, brother. Today is going to be great. I can feel it.

Yup. It's going to be a great day... just as soon as we dig out from under this steaming pile of poo... and bandage up these wounds... and take something for this headache... and...and...and...

If you're in the mood for some cinematic, electronic music (think Daft Punk's Tron: Legacy soundtrack), have I got the thing for you.

It's not exactly Daft Punk, but it's still pretty darn cool.
It kind of reminds me of '80's scifi.

Thanks for the link... sounds pretty cool. Goes fairly well with today's lesson (the end of the universe)

    Okay, knot enthusiasts...

I need to know what kind of knot to use for a very specific application.

I want to make a rope "frog". A frog is a little strap that goes around your belt, and is easy to open and close. It's used for hanging a mug from your belt.

Here's a pretty basic one: [IMG]

I want to make the same thing, only out of rope. Now, it doesn't have to work exactly the same, but I want the same functionality. I need to hang a mug from a belt, and I want to be able to remove it and put it back fairly easily.

    Any suggestions?

I'm thinking maybe a girth hitch combined with a square knot?

You probably could do it with a Monkey's Fist and a loop.

Micah, what does the mug handle look like? Is it is standard handle with a closed loop? If you are going for period garb you can't do a caribiner, but if just for yourself you could do a carabiner on the mug and then Use a loop on a Lark's head or girth hitch to connect the loop to the belt. If you tie a bit of loose rope to the handle and have a solid knot on the end of that, you could always use the free end of the rope on the belt to make another Lark's head to hold the knot. Loosen the 2nd lark's head and the mug's knot slips through.

Also, if you want some paracord, I've probably got plenty

    I'm going semi-period.

Actually, I'm not hanging a mug, but rather a bottle.

I made a "rope" net that wraps around the bottle using hemp cord, and when I was done wrapping the bottle, I had enough string that I was able to braid 4 strands and give myself about 4 inches of hanging rope. I was able to tie a loop off on the end of that. I really need to take a picture and put it up so you can see what I'm talking about. I'm thinking the monkeyfist and loop might just work, though.

You know, I'm sure there's something witty to be said about this, but I'm just going to let the picture do its own talking:
