Found the thread I did for the replacement: http://theshaveden.com/forums/threa...really-is-new-old-stock-1949-executive.28048/
Well let's resurrect this thread!!! Some months ago I found something special in Colombia =p it arrived to my house today. In the same day I got two very different executives =) But now something to discuss with you guys! I really believe this is a rhodium plated Gillette Executive, but mine is from 1951... Am I wrong?
They made them in 1949 and 1950 for the Christmas season. A 51 would have a date code of W which is hard to tell from the picture. If it is a 51 then we can add another production year. It looks like it does since there seems to be a production quarter number stamped on the right side which I can't make out.
Amazing stuff!! Thanks BBS! I can confirm, it's a W1. I will try to get a better picture =) unfortunately I don't have the box =(
My understanding is in 1951 they stopped making brass razors and that should include the Executive after the second production quarter. So anything being sold later in the year should be leftover items with W 1 and W 2 date codes. You can find the case by itself for sale. You might pay good money for it but depending how much you spent on the razor, the set will be worth more than both. The fact you never see a 51 and you have proof it is legit might make it worth even more to the right collector if you ever decide to sell it.
Great pictures, thank you so much. Not for sale, I really love collecting and using them. Shaved last night with it! I was very lucky, they weren't sold as Executive's, just old gillettes. I just have one regret because I think he had a President, but in the picture it didn't look rhodium plated, and I didn't buy it.
awesome Jody,i see that....i have a caseless 1950 model.our Jim @Jayaruh built me a nice case for it.
Man if I was still major collecting, that's definitely one set I would love to have back. Then again I would love to have all of Achim's collection. I'd definitely like to see how your case turned out!
I've got a spare case, it's rough, but nice enough...pm me if you're interested. Heck, I'll be selling a whole set shortly as I just picked up another... first I have to figure out which is nicer, they're both near perfect in different ways lol. Regarding dates, my first one is W1, so 1950... my new one has no date code, so that's 1949 from what I'm gathering here? Here's my new one, with one blade pack still sealed in the foil. Here's the old one, W1 date code and period blade packs, but unlikely both original. Here's the pair... Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
