Thanks Jeff! I have to admit. I enjoy my Dovo more than my Parker shavette. I guess it is because it was my first shavette and I am on autopilot when I use it. I am comfortable with the Parker, but I have to be more aware of the exposed toe and heel, otherwise I would be singing the Red River Valley.

 

Fabulous shave Joe. Is this the dirty patchouli scent that a few of the 30DC members are referencing?

In Stirling's description, it is described as an earthy scent. So I guess it is dirty parchouli. True, it isn't a bright scent, but it is a pleasant one to me. I didn't care for it at first, but it did grow on me. The best way that I can describe it would be a Downy Fabric Softener type scent. However, it is my nose with sinusitus that is giving me this experience. It is a ymmv thing. I would suggest looking at the reviews on the soap.

 

No, the jasper stays flat.
A barbers size hone at 1/2” is small.
It is hard work on hard rock.

I redressed my already convexed black ark using 80 grit wet/dry silicon carbide jacked with 60 grit silicon carbide powder. 4.5 hours invested. Glad I’ll prolly never need to do that one again.

If you or Ben come across a warped beater that you want to test one of my edges on let me know. I can easily throw a Naniwa 12k on my lapping plate too. That way, you could easily test your luck on a self done refresh.

The honing stroke keeps the razor pretty perpendicular to the stone. A two handed x-pattern is used seeing that the level is gently rocked heel to toe giving an even amount of service along the entire edge. Almost the way you would need to sharpen a razor on a 1 x 12 inch flat stone. I plan to do a illustrative educational video, stay tuned. The very traditional ‘United American Honers Union’ will buck this path forever. I have no idea why, easy peasy, great edge on warped razor, no tape required.

A wonderful shave with the Stirling SDM. The introductory shave with the new acquired Simpson Trafalgar T2, a birthday gift from my daughter, easily whipped up a nice lather that provided slickness and cushion for another shavette shave.

The usual three passes have left my face smooth, a close to BBS as possible. I am looking good and smelling phenomenal. Have a great day gentlemen.
