You would not believe the number of times I get one of 3 types of people knocking on my door during the year. I regularly have magazines salespeople, meat-from-a-stranger-in-an-unmarked-truck salespeople, and Jehovah's witnesses knocking on my door.

It's really high, whatever the number is. I have lived in a lot of places and never has it been like this.

Jim, did you put that sign on my back??? :rolleyes005

oooohhhh....did I tell you about the 2 guys walking up my drive at 8pm in the pitch dark??

    Jehovah's witnesses.

Scared me to death! (yes, I am dead. read the paper sometimes, sheesh.)

I was politely blunt with them. They didn't seem to care, but were polite back.

If it's day time and I'm awake I don't mind as much, but come on! Give it a break already! And don't do it in the dark of night!

Just finished watching "Walk Don't Run" with Cary Grant and a woman who looks startlingly like Yummy on Netflix streaming.

Excellent movie. There's even a scene with Mr. Grant wearing a face full of lather, though no razor is ever seen.

I'm convinced that Cary Grant could not make a bad movie.

We get a lot of "college" kids selling stuff or having competitions to find information about X, Y, Z... About once a month I get a new person on a paper route trying to get us to take their paper. I get several different church groups.. But never, ever have I had a "meat-from-a-stranger-in-an-unmarked-truck" salesperson. I have heard of such things before, but just never seen one. Is this a common occurrence for anyone else?

Hunkering down in Mississippi for bad weather.. again.. 3rd Friday in a row.. tornadoes... straight line winds... 80 MPH winds... 1 dead from this line already in Oklahoma, 2 dead in Arkansas... I hate bad weather... when the cat runs under the bed, I want to run under there with him... I really, really hate bad, violent weather... it's like, probably my second biggest phobia behind snakes..I'd rather die from anything but snakes or bad weather.......... blah!:angry032

okay. I thought the steak salespeople were common across the U.S.

when we lived in Mississippi a guy came by with steaks in his truck. He had references from people in my parish so I didn't mind buying from him. We got a really good deal and I got a lot of red meat.

Then, about a year ago a guy pulls into the driveway here in Pineville and wants to sell us steaks. This was a little bit shadier, but he was connected with a national chain. We got a decent deal- not great- but I still got some red meat.

No one has come by recently. We don't have the money to buy a package of any size anyway.

I did door to door sales once upon a long time ago. I feel a certain amount of sympathy for people that are still doing it- I don't always buy but I try hard to be nice. It's a hard job.

I find answering the door in clericals is very, very effective. I can mail you a shirt or two if you'd like to try.

we had that system pass through about 1ish this morning, I don't think it was extremely bad, I think the worst of it stayed north of Texarkana.

    Good luck over there

Tornado just came through... lots of damage everywhere and the same tornado is still on the ground, having traveled now approximately 40 miles. Clinton, Jackson, Ridgeland and other places in Central Mississippi with lots of damage including a pile up on the interstate as the tornado crossed and apparently the drivers didn't know it was coming. I am thankful it skirted right on by my exact location within 2 miles... did I mention how much I hate bad weather??

    Wow, dude, glad you're okay.

Not to make light of the situation, but I hope that to'nader didn't come across that section you and I talked about before around I-20 and Highway 49, that area's messed up enough without a tornado coming through.

I can't imagine driving 70 MPH and seeing a tornado come across. We had an F5 come through Arkadelphia while I was in college (actually, I was in Mobile for my great-grandmother's funeral that weekend), and when I went back I could see the path across I-30 that it cleared about a 1/2 mile wide path of trees through....amazing

ditto! I am certainly glad you are OK and hope that everyone in the path is as OK as possible.
I was driving up from Huntsville once and in the middle of KY hit some real bad storms. I didn't know until later that night that there were tornadoes in those storms that hit some of the same spots just minutes after I drove through them. As far as I know, I was the idiot you see on storm chasing videos blindly driving down the road with a tornado right behind them.

No, it crossed I-20 about 10 miles before "The Stack" as we call it, that area of I-20 and Hwy 49 and I-55 where they all stack on top of each other depending on which exit you're going to take. Can't remember when you said you came through but it's much improved since they added another layer to the stack and changed up and added some lanes and better signs telling you which way to go. :happy102

Funny story similar... New Year's Eve this year... bad storms came through including a tornado that did damage my roof around 6:00 PM. I'm sitting at the Airport red light (I know you don't know what that is...) and all of a sudden rain comes down so hard I can't see past my dash and it gets pitch black outside. Radio interrupts and says there's a tornado near or at the airport. I said to the radio, "No sh**, I'm sitting inside of it, I don't need you to tell me where it's at!!!!" The airport, airport red light and my house are all within a mile of each other.. hence the damage to my roof too. I had to drive like 2 mph that mile and couldn't see anything - almost ran into a tree that had fallen across my street. The tornado hopped up and down instead of staying on the ground and I was lucky it decided to hop at my house and didn't touch back down until it did so on the airport runway - but it still took off some of my shingles. Insurance company totaled it and I got a new roof.

I generally pass through there at least once per year, and I have noticed it getting better...either that or I'm just getting more familiar with it :)

Last year was a bit different, because we were traveling with my sister and BIL, in separate vehicles, and got separated back about Ruston due to my wife's urgent need to make a pit stop, so we were going to meet back up in Jackson....I still don't have a clue how we made it to 49, but I was sure glad to see it after that 30 minute "detour" :happy097
