I haven't had an issue with leaving the blades in for long periods between shaves because I extend my rinse time using hot water.

It's knowing how you were able to figure out a way to use a straight razor with your Parkinsons and overcoming your fear of shaving with one. I felt your pain that you wanted to join the straight shaver world but thought that it would never be possible. Now, you're part of a rare group that straight shaves. That's the reason why I smile when you post on this thread. Also, I have to keep up with my vocabulary. Lol!

 

Snippets of my process will be included as illustrations of my reasoning as I step through. Just not going to video the entire process.

I’ve watched a million honing videos, in can be a bore to sit through the whole ordeal.

When I get it done, I’ll post here in case there are folks lurking who have not found success they want honing with mainstream teachings. I’ll also open a thread in the straights section. I can handle questions and focus more there if the trolling hone drones don’t bomb the bejeebers out of me again.

Well, I had an interesting morning as I reported to the middle school. I was called in to see the principal. Apparently some of the 6th grade parents complained about my encouraging students to see my shaving channel. I told the principal that some of the students told me they downloaded and subscribed to my channel and I said that I was honored and flattered to those students in the class. I said that I never explicitly told anyone to look or subscribe to my channel. I told the principal that I explained to the class that in the 1800's, and through the early 20th Century, it was common for men to shave that way. I made it like a short history lesson. Well, it seems the title Mad Max was also unnerving to the parents. I explained that it is in reference to the maker Max Sprecher. She said she had to see the YouTube video. I said, "Did you enjoy it." She answered that was a big blade. She thought straight razors were a lot smaller. I said most are, but this razor is a custom razor made specially for me. I finally said to her, "Parents today are easily upset over things so innocuous. It's not like it was when we were younger. You have a tough job dealing with parents." She also said, "I see that you are a collector.. I said, Yes, this is my hobby and I own 16 straights." She said she understood because she is a collector of antique items. Anyway, I didn't have the heart to tell her that I purchase a razor larger than Mad Max by 3/8 of an inch. Lol!
