Interviews can be grueling even when you are well-versed, confident, and know you are in the lead for the job. Mucho Personal Experience tells me so. I'll drink a Sam for you so you can relax. :D

I just watched a movie on Netflix called "On the Road with Judas."

It was exactly like the description on Netflix in that it had a character named Judas, in all other accounts, it was wildly different.

Actually, the movie was sort of one of those movie within a book within a movie sort of things--think Adaptation or Stranger than Fiction.

It was actually a pretty good movie, and it takes a few minutes to get the swing of what's happening, but once you settle in, it's got a nice charming quality and has a certain ring of truth.

    Weird movie, though.

Not kid safe. Not mindless. I liked it.

How odd... I know I sent a post in this morning from home. And yet, it isn't here? huh.....

this is very true about many things.

In regards to Netflix, things are much much better now that the internet speed is up at home. It used to be a situation where I would start buffering a movie and have time to take the dog out, make popcorn, and maybe have a bathroom run before the show would start. Now as soon as I hit play, it just works. :D

One of the last things I did this morning before I left for work (other than obviously shut off my computer without hitting the submit reply button) was pack daughter's lunch. I am running a bit late and I look in her lunch bag and find a note reminding us to bring in snacks today. Oh snap! Oh well, nothing like trying to find a store open at 5:30 AM that would have non dairy, non peanut butter snacks in appropriately wrapped individual containers. d'oh! I was so tempted to just send in a bag of apples.

For netflix streaming, I have discovered the ctrl+shift+alt+s keystroke. It pulls up a silverlight menu that lets you adjust the buffering. As soon as the show starts, I'll pull it up and force it to go to 256 (the lowest setting) and things seem to run much smoother. The picture quality goes down a bit, but it's still about as good as I get on our usual OTA antenna.

I've given up on Netflix streaming. Their online selection sucks big time.

They have all the TV shows I care about and with how few movies I watch, they have plenty. I will admit I'm watching more movies than I used to now that I have Netflix, but I'm still way behind the curve. Lately I've been going through Fawlty Towers (or is that Watery Fowls?).

I believe it is growing, slowly but surely. I'm sure it will take some time for Netflix to get permissions from all the studios or whoever to do the whole streaming thing with a lot of movies.

From what I've heard on teh 'netz, they are trying to eliminate the DVDs completely within a year or two...of course, this is all internet garble, but if that's really the case, they better get on it!

You've just got to look for the hidden gems. Plus, the old tv shows are a boon to those of us in the sticks who can't get cable and won't pay for satellite.

If only it were real. I'm thinking of trying to make one, though.

Farty Towels was a great show! (I wanted to use a different name they used one episode, but the rules might prohibit it. It starts with "Flowery")

For those of us who have tastes counter to the mainstream, the catalog can be a real treasure trove. My big concern is what's going to happen to this country's bandwidth as netflix gains popularity? Also, see below--V

Yeah, they're working toward an all-streaming model, but it's going to take some major doing. I think the studios are wising up, and making it more cost prohibitive for them. Also, as other companies start up and try to compete, it's going to hurt their ability to become an all encompassing provider of movies. While I'm usually all for competition in the marketplace, this is one instance where I'm not so sure competing companies will be a good thing. Paying one company for access to a plethora of movies through one cohesive site is much more appealing than paying several companies and having to sift through sites to find the content I want and then having to deal with the interfaces of their various players.

Not to mention the internet backbone that's lacking here in the US for that kind of model. A lot of folks don't have connections fast enough to get quality usage out of Netflix. And those that do run into problems with their ISPs limiting bandwidth or charging overage fees.

And that's even with the current streaming/mailing model. I also read online somewhere (I think it was CNN) that at its peak times, Netflix streaming accounts for 30-40% of all bandwidth in the US! That's a HUGE amount! Now imagine if they went without DVDs completely. Netflix is going to have to be careful about how they decide to implement this idea.

Unfortunately, our aging infrastructure needs gutted and replaced anyway. However, as that isn't going to happen anytime soon, we will just limp along and watch the rest of the world's internet zip on by.

nope... can't say that I have gained that level of awareness.

Daughter has been singing Firefly theme song and "The Ballad of Jane" lately. Makes me grin over my little browncoat. :D

Such a cruddy week, capped off with Thursday's breakdown of my car.
Stuck at work, finally got the car home, courtesy of my old truck (kinda poetic, I guess).

Needs a new motor. Was going up the last hill to work when it suddenly starting making a noise like there was no oil. I do have to put about 1 quart every two weeks in, and I can always tell when the motor starts sounding a little different that it needs it. It hardly ever starts the tell-tell clicking of lifters when the oil gets low, but this time was different. Just a sudden, no-power, loud clicking.

My friend can get me a new motor, but it's going to be several months before I can save up the ~$450 for it...if that soon.
The next several weeks are going to be hectic.

    Oh well.

Yesterday started off very blah. Still down from Thursday.

Had a wonderful church service last night. Was called Secret Church, it was an online-simulcast based out of Birmingham, AL (Roll Tide :D), and was quite excellent.
Helped me get my focus back where it needs to be.
God is sovereign and holy, and if these are trials I need to be in, then I need to endure with faith and trust.

Uggh, I can't stand getting reminded of things I should've never let my mind off of in the first place, so humiliating.
