    Thanks Gary.

Thanks Jeff. I'm trying it out tonight.

I'll be waiting for your report Joe.

Very nice Charlie (aka the Hallmark King) :)

    Beautiful sounding shave, Charlie!
I'm getting a little worried, though- 8 year old razor head...4 year old imported brush (Is there no wood left in America!!!)...70 year old soap scent... looks like a little updating is past being just 'appropriate' and is getting dangerously close to 'mandatory'... there are those that can help.

Feb 8 2021 SOTE Mühle Menthol Monday

    Good evening guys!

The time has come to try out the Mühle R102 with a brand new Feather Blade for the very first time!

    Mühle R102
    Feather DE Blade (1)
    Omega Pro 49
    Proraso Green SS and AS
    Dickenson's WH (not pictured)
    Nivea for Men Aftershave Balm
    Whiskers: 31 hours 20210207_204355.jpg

I decided to bowl lather the Proraso with my Omega 49 and my smaller new bowl. I didn't use the makeshift "scuttle" setup because I wanted to get the full effect of the menthol.
Here is the picture of the bowl lather:
    20210208_170159.jpg

I wanted to make sure that I had a thick, creamy and cushiony lather for my first use of the aggressive R102 with a Feather blade. I also wanted to show you guys that I can make a thick lather when it needs to be.

Here am I, all lathered up. I gave 3 photos to encompass all angles of my face:

    20210208_170528.jpg 20210208_170544.jpg 20210208_170537.jpg

I have to say that the R102 was very easy for me to find the angle. However, when I was going against the grain on my neck, it was a little tricky. I think that I was a little too cautious in that area, but I found the angle quickly to continue without a problem. I did two passes and got a near BBS shave without any irritation. However, a tiny weep appeared, but disappeared without any intervention by the time my 2nd pass was completed. I have to say that I am impressed with this razor. So, I have tried Feather's in both my shavettes and in my most aggressive DE in my den. I guess you can say that I came, I saw and I conquered the feared Feather blade. Lol!
Did my normal post shave routine with a generous portion of the Proraso Green aftershave. This was truly a delightful shave. I want to thank the guys who joined me in using their Mühle razors in supporting me in my maiden shave of the Mühle R102.
    Have a pleasant evening guys!

No worries Dave. I wasn't offended or anything. I realize you were kidding. However, I usually answer questions in a straightforward manner. It is just my nature.

You are welcome Maestro. The R102 is a very efficient razor. I can see why you need to be focused as if you are using a straight. The razor's smooth feeling is quite deceptive and it may lull you into a sense of being unconcerned about nicks, cuts, etc. I was not fearful of this razor coupled with a Feather blade, but I respected the tandem. We say it time and time again, technique trumps tools.

:happy036:That was an awesome shave report Joe. Very nice lather job btw. :happy088: I knew you wouldn't have any problems with that beast . I just gave the Fatip piccolo a run for its money and will post soon. Have a great day :)

Thank you Patrick! Using straights and shavettes helps one to deal with aggressive razors because you develop good technique. My lathers are thinner for my straight shaves, but I wasn't going to play around with this razor. I wanted to give myself the best chance to succeed by creating a thicker lather. You will find that the Mühle R41/101/102/103 is a great shaver. Go a little slower than usual to get a feel for the razor during the first pass. You will do fine with your R101.

Well lately my shaves have been looking like a tribute to Italy so let's have another shall we ?
Busted out the new Fatip piccolo with open comb and a new Gillette/Wilkinson blade . Applied some preshave protection before lathering up the Proraso with the Omega ( this has over a dozen black hairs ) of course.
I love love love the weight of this razor and once you hit the angle this baby handles like a sports car. Only required 2 passes today and I cannot feel a stray hair anywhere.
This is my first time using alum and it lit me up like a Christmas tree. Wow . Good stuff.
Finished off with a nice coat of Proraso balm . I can report that my sinuses are open wide at the moment :)
I dont know how to describe this in Italian but it was a beyond excellent shave. I'm very impressed and hope the R101 comes close to the performance of the well designed beautiful Piccolo.

Awesome maiden shave with the Piccolo Patrick! Proraso SS and Omega boar is the combo for great lathers! Looking forward to your comparison with the R101!

I agree on the thicker lather Joe. Did the same for the piccolo. One never knows. Proper technique is what I preach to new shavers and I think experience plays a large part in success with these agressive DE and straights . Cant wait for the R101 to get here for a comparison to the 2 Italian bar setters I now have .
