Wonderful first outing with my newest razor.

TI razors are both loved and hated. I happen to love this one, but the jury is out as to whether I will mute the tip on it’s French point.

The 889 is an extra hollow grind in c135 steel that comes available in a number of widths, engravings, scale options, and points. My piece was from the lineup of a bulk order of these. All were done with the “Wolf and Sheep” engraving. I just had to have the one with these particular rams horn scales. Certainly a beauty.

C135 steel is the particular formulary makeup of the famed Sheffield steel which my research indicates is very close to the commonly used carbon steel by German manufacturers. TI pieces are reputed to have wonderful performance due to the steel, although I am of the opinion that it lies more in a molten lead hardening process they still use by special permit.

The tool has a wonderful feel in the hand and a lower weight than other 6/8 razors I have.

One of the reasons they are hated is because it is viewed by its manufacturer as a unique handmade piece prone to the defects that are common in that process. Sometimes they have bends and shapes making honing troublesome. I’ve read where a whining honemeister refuses to touch them and another who tapes the edge and grinds the spine flat at step 1. I choose to hone on an elliptically crowned surfaces, which is how this was done by my vendor.

Much the same for me. Some days I have the time for individual responses, sometimes it’s just the ‘Like’ button as I’m reading along. Every now and then I check in after a long day or two or three, and it’s 400-1500 posts behind. I’ll catch up reading, but I usually start back in with individual thoughts on the current day’s first post. I also cross devices (phone/tablet/computer whatever’s closest) using a browser, which results in some scattered brain gaps of where I was, so unintentional page skips happen. Please don’t take that as being overlooked, it’s absolutely my time being overwhelmed.

Feather Hi Stainless DE Blade (3-4)

This was my very first Frankenrazor shave.
I decided to use the heavier handle because I felt the Feather would not be as sharp.
Everything went well with the Face Shave. Bowl lathered in my makeshift scuttle to get a nice, creamy lather. The MCS lavender has a wonderful, earthy scent. Two passes gave me a BBS - shave. Did get a weep, but it disappeared with a cold rinse. The blade was not as sharp as when it was new and was feeling a little tugginess and I guess that is why I got the weep by my mouth. However, I wanted to push the envelope and continue shaving my head without changing the blade. As you know, I like to experiment. Lol! Well you know the obvious story. I got 2 weeps on the right side of my head and one at the lower nape a valley. Got irritation there as well. Lol! However, did get a near smooth headshave. Like I said to Maestro, 3 faceshaves are the max for me with Feathers. The headshave was #4 on the blade and so I should have followed my advice, but I just wanted to try and see if my thoughts were correct. I also attribute the less than stellar headshave in learning the angles with this razor for my head contours. Conclusion: Don't be lazy and stubborn Always change the blade when you feel tugginess.
I will have one more shave with this Frankenrazor on Saturday and that will be it for the Mühle R102. I will load a Rockwell blade to see and compare the shave with it and the Feather.

Thanks Dave! I am glad that I got my current CT. The headshave wasn't really that bad as I made it out to be. However, in my 11.5 yrs of headshaving, it was on the lower rung of results.

 

Thanks Blair! The headshave wasn't as bad as it sounded, but I know it is 3x on a Feather blade for me.

 

I'm pretty sure the CT isn't carved in stone I think I had 3 different ones in another neighborhood.............
