    How's Your Day? June 20 - June 26

Heading up to work at the plant for a couple days. Baked banana bread tonight that's currently cooling down; I'll have a slice before I head off to bed.

Also watched "Serenity", the movie sequel to Firefly. Absolutely amazing movie. I don't get why Joss Whedon and the actors from this aren't huge names, they're among the most talented American actors today. I wonder if it's Hollywood or just the tastes of the general public that cause such talent to be considered so much less than they should.

Sorry, Jim. That bothered me too much.

I thought Joss Whedon was a big name. Nathan Fillion, Ron Glass, Alan Tudyk, and Summer Glau are all decently large names. They have all been part of multiple tv shows or movies. But yes, it is a shame that none of them get the credit they deserve for this wonderful show and then great movie.

    Oh Snap!

While trimming my hair, my elbow hit the door behind me pushing the trimmer into my head a little harder and the guard fell off. So now, in order to even the oops, everything is as short as you can get with a trimmer. So, wife is going to be upset, but trimming incidents have happened twice before. Now, it is summer break... do I just go for the dome shave? Of course all of you will say yes. However, I have to live here and you all don't.

BTW.. how are things going with your chrome dome, Jim? Did you ever get that done?

You gotta try it at least. I did it for about 6 months. It's really kinda cool, just use sunscreen. Using a DE on the dome is pretty neat too. I cut myself a few times but after the 3rd or 4th shave it was old hat. Soaping the dome is pretty neat too.

I usually use a 1 guard, so this really won't be much shorter. Smooth shaven has to be better than 1/32 stubble sandpaper. Welll.. here goes...

    Wimp.............;)
It hasn't happened, yet.....nothing I've done has gotten my wife to even give an inch in the acceptance of the facts that it's thinning itself out, and if I just go ahead with it now, it gets there evenly, instead she wants it it look like crap in the process.
Really sucks, I've been wanting to do this for years, and now that genetics is starting to give me the leverage I need to make it happen (with no resentment from the wife), she's digging her feet in.

What's worse, my brother in law has been shaving his head for a few years now, and now that I'm trimming my hair short with either a #2, or recently acquired #1.5 guard, everyone at church is jokingly saying I'm copying him.
Yes, it's done in humor, but it pisses me off a little, if I'd had my way, it would have been done long ago, and now facing that almost makes me second guess wanting to do so, just to avoid the comparisons.

Still, that "trick" has been waiting in the alcove for a few weeks now, gonna have to let it out soon.
    What trick, you ask?
The "Crap! Sorry honey, the guard fell off the trimmer while I was cutting my hair....." :D

I haven't gone down to #1 yet, that's my next cut, methinks

well it is done. Is it done well.. no

Started with a mild razor on a day 3 blade. It took tons off even after being down to 1/32 of an inch (maybe even less). However, I still had a sandpaper feel in lots of places despite many passes. No cuts though...

So, WTF... time to go more aggressive.. Grabbed a fat boy, set it at 6 and did a few more passes. Still not smooth, but now have irritation and some nicks. So I guess I will call it a draw for today. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Now I can clearly see all sorts of red bumps (may not be shaving related at all) just above my ears.. drats, I hope those clear up quickly.

Hmmm, mine never was BBS against the grain but WTG it was outdamnstanding. As far as the red spots, I never had that problem. Hopefully some balm or something will help?

I've been using my clippers without a guard for a few months now, and am building the courage to just shave it.

I can see how that is aggravating and I hope your wife doesn't read that. Otherwise, she may not have faith in the accident proposal. Ah... who are we kidding, out wives probably won't buy the guard fell off story anyway.

Honestly, I am not pleased with the results, I will probably give it a go for a while to see if it gets better. But if it consistently ends up like this, I will grow it back out.

A few things... should have used a brand new blade. For your initial defleecing, I recommend a very mild razor, even --gasp-- a bic disposable. That second trip with the more agressive razor is what did you in.

Second, let it go for a day or two before you go at it again... need to give those bumps time to heal... trust me on this.

Third, I highly recommend the headblade for dome chroming. I bought one a few years back, and I haven't looked back. Sometimes newer really can be better. It's not for everyone, but I love mine.

Preposterous. Tell them you aren't copying your BIL. Tell them you're copying me! :D

I may just pick one up to try. I am not upset by any red marks or nicks, I figured that they would be there. I just wish it would have looked like a closer shave. Oh well, I suppose I could go a day or two without another attempt... maybe

I have a full head of thick curly hair. I have been cutting it off for close to two decades now as I really dislike having an afro. I use an Oster with a 00000 blade on it. It gets as close as I need and grows back quickly.

I have the same thing with my hair. It is very thick and curly. I get my hair usually cut by a family friend when I am in Burlington however in Guelph I go to the salon that is next door to my house. It is pretty good and decently cheap for just a trim and cut. There is a barber by the grocery store that I go to. Might pop in for a visit one of these days.

Today is a pretty good day. Have a nice Amaretto coffee and homemade banana bread. Pretty good way to have a coffee break.

    I don't recommend headblade's blades, though.

They're a triple-bladed affair and it can be rather harsh. I recommend going to walmart and picking up a pack of atra-style wilkinson carts with 2 blades. Those things are a dream.
