Patrick’s given you excellent advice about how to hold the razor to ensure that only the weight of the head is doing the work, Paul! I would also recommend sticking with the Red Tip till you get it dialed in! Cart technique and the ‘no pressure’ technique needed for the Red Tip are diametrically opposed to each other, and will only lead to more cuts! Stick to your knitting!

I am not ambivalent about polishing the brass. I really wanted a black oxide finish. If the Blackbird stays it will get an antique finish. If the splash is not an exact match, it is very very close to me.

I have thought about taking a 6S plate and letting my neighbor mill one down. I did find some pictures where someone has modified one. Looks interesting.
