Glad to hear your mom is recovering well.

I can't say that I have ever noticed the e-ink display on the kindle flickering. And normally flickering electronics drive me batty. . OK,, battier?

Lol! It's when you "turn the page " and everything reverses in color.

I have an Aluratek Libre, it actually uses a monochrome reflective lcd screen (no backlight) instead of the fancy, expensive e-ink. It doesn't have near the battery life of say the kindle, nor does it have wifi, or any fancy bells and whistles, but it's spry, and it plays a buttload of ebook formats as well as mp3s, and it doesn't flicker. In fact, when the light catches it just right, the screen takes on a silver sheen that is absolutely bright and beautiful, blowing e-ink out of the water. You can even do some drm'd books on it, supposedly, but I avoid them like the plague as I'm pretty much a strictly public domain ebook kind of guy. They've recently come out with a more compact model that is pretty tempting.

That reminds me of an old archie comic. Archie's walking along, sees some graffiti that says "I like grils." He pulls out a pencil, crosses out "grils" and writes in "girls." The next day he's walking along and sees that someone has written a new message underneath: "What's wrong with us grils?" :happy102

I have no idea why you would want to ruin an egg like that.

Unless you were planning on making deviled eggs or egg salad..........even then. :(

And NO, it's not your egg, you can't enjoy it your way.

:D fine........I'm just kidding. If I have to, I guess...........

Uhm... I've got nothing to say about this, really. I just thought I'd share:

On further review, I do have something to say... those doors obviously aren't welded shut.

    Sacrilege.

Depends on what you mean by inexpensive... If you're okay with a used girl's bike that needs a lot of work, I've got one I'll make a heck of a deal on for you.

What are you wanting it for? If you just want a casual cruising bike, I'd just go to walmart and buy one of their higher-end models. If you want something that's going to be lightweight and dependable, I'd head to Berringer's in Texarkana and look at their fuji bikes. I have a Fuji Thunder and it's the bee's knees, though I've only logged about 6 miles on it in the few years I've owned it (not because the bike is bad, but because I'm a lazy b*stard). Their bikes are probably going to start around $200, but believe me, the difference in quality from a heavy walmart bike is unbelievable.

In other news, I saw one of these in the wild last night at Khol's. Interesting-ish.

See if you have a small local bike shop that has re-serviced bikes for sale. Some do, some don't. But it doesn't hurt to check and get to know the people there.

I was wondering about that hack as well. I would think that as long as you can still get proper pressure and the tube isn't pushing into the nuts for the spokes where it can blow out (maybe the belt can protect there as well) that it wouldn't be an issue

For a bicycle it really matters one what you want from it. If you want a road/hybrid/mountain or just to cruise around. I really like Giant and Norco. I still use my fathers Norco from the 70's. Just have to love the old friction shifters. I have a Norco mountain, a giant mountain and a trek road.

There is a bike show in Toronto so a hr or so from me I go to both of their shows. Some great deals there if there is something local I would recommend it... I always go and drool over some very nice bikes. I always come away with either some clothing or some other bicycling paraphernalia.

If you don't care if it might break or what not just want to go from point a to point b i would go to walmart and do as stated above. Just do not expect a light nice bike with good equipment.

Yeah, just kinda considering for some casual cruising right now, I may go to TXK and check out that place if I can find it (maybe make it a stop on a future Spoliation Run?), but mainly thinking Mal-Wart, for now. Of course it'll need to support the weight of an obese Wookie :ashamed001, but that's part of my thinking in getting one. Been using the bicycle attachment on the Total Gym for a couple weeks now, it's great and I'm starting to tell a bit of difference, but to get outdoors where the scenery changes, the wind's in your face, and my allergies can get a chance to run out of bubblegum on me, plus the family time aspect of it, is what I'm looking for.

I know you like your Fuji (which of course, is a type of apple, which mean you own an Apple product...hahahaha! :D), and I may get to that point eventually. I looked at the selection at our local Wal-Mart last week, the only one that appealed to me was right at $200, which is probably the price range I *need* to consider right now, but I can't yet.

Wow, talk about irony...or coincidence...or something! Just did a quick search for their store, they actually have a website...built on a Mac site!
If I had known that, I probably wouldn't have made the attempt at the joke I was stretching for....

Hmmmm...what is distance but a collection of miles....:D

    whatcha got? :D

But, you never know, you may need it more than you think. Then again, not sure I'd want to ride around the border area right now outside of anything but an armored Humvee :D

If i were you i would check out a local bike shop. They will be able to size up a bike for you. And buy last years models... Many times they just change the paint or tube geometry. You should be able to get a decent bike for about 200.

    Good luck on your search.
