SS & AS: Stirling Mountain Man

A great 2nd day. Looking at my face I see a little irritation, but it's been there for a few days. I'd skipped a couple days, which I don't do very often, and I tried to mow it down per the normal process. I'm pretty sure I needed a lighter first pass which usually isn't needed when I shave every day. Live and learn. This 'crat is pretty mild compared to my normal favorites. I have to work just a little harder to get that BBS finish. We'll see how I do in a few weeks.

I was fortunate to pick one of these up at a reasonable price versus the Stupid Money they go for at times and I LOVE it. Always have when seen in others shave of the day pics ( Looking especially at you Matt @120inna55 who takes crazy good photos) and even more after getting it and enjoying the shaves with it. Is it better/effective than any other Injector razor ? No, not really. But the experience in how something feels in your hand adds or takes away from the shave experience for me and I enjoy METAL tools. That's just me. I still enjoy the few other injectors I have but this is my favorite Injector. The Vintage Williams just gives such a nice shave and feel of a refreshed face when done. The Vintage Aqua Velva just adds to that and has a slight medicinal vetiver type scent to me versus the aquatic fresh scent you get from what we associate with Aqua Velva that's the Blue formula. Threw some modern EdT at the shave with the Spicebomb to wrap things up. My time will be limited here going forward as I handle some other things higher on the priority list (I know this is debatable) As some have said I will read ALL I can and use the like button too but posting may be down. It may take me a bit to wean myself off my forum addiction but that's the goal/need. Have a great day everyone !!

Broke out the shaving cream and mug too.
I normally use soap and skin lather but with keeping it interesting, I switched.
Face shave was much better but the head shave still needs tweaked.
I know, some are thinking, isn't it interesting enough shaving your face and head with an open blade DE razor and a new Feather blade every shave???
Guess not.

I'm trying to keep my mind positive and productive and out of the darkness.
So if you see a picture of me hanging upside down, 100 feet into the air, blind folded while open blade shaving...

No worries.

I'm just trying to keep my mind busy.

Hopefully my wife gets better soon, but I'm in a waiting game.

Open blade shaving for stress relief. I'd try it, but I'm pretty sure they have a diagnosis for that kind of theropy... or something like that. Non-enthusiasts just don't understand. The setup does look nice. Stay healthy, happy, and safe my friend!

I am dedicating this shave to my mother who is in Heaven. Today would've been her 91st birthday.
I decided to pick out my Wosty near wedge because I haven't used it in awhile and I have a heavy enough stubble to warrant its use. Loaded my brush with the Cella a number of times to facelather because the soap is filled to the brim. I really don't need the soap overflowing from the tub. The smell from the soap is definitely awesome and it does provide a nice, slick lather as well. The Wosty did a great job mowing down my stubble on my first pass and I could have called it right there. However, I like 2 passes and got a near BBS without any problems and no touchups were required. Did my usual postshave routine to end this tribute shave to my mom. As an afterthought I decided to headshave using the same gear, but replaced the Wosty with my Model T. With a Rockwell blade loaded in the Model T, I got a nice smooth headshave. Day 2 of 6 of the @Edison Carter Dovo Straight Mini -Focus. Same results as yesterday were provided by this razor in the three pass mode. A super smooth shave without any hiccups. The Opus Boar easily whipped up a voluminous lather that easily could have been used to do a head shave if that was in the thought process.

The strength of scent with both the soap and splash of PAA products is well documented. The PAA AABR falls into this category. From past experience, I will be smelling this juice long into the evening. Yes, it is Happy Hump Day for sure.

My day will be with the Yutes, as always, however, I do have a meeting at 10:00 with the lady that coordinates the various insurances provided to the school district employees. The meeting is to discuss health, dental and eventual Medicare Insurance in retirement. Fortunately for me, I will not have to pick up the COBRA plan option as my wife, also an employee in the district as a school administrator, will pick up the Family Plan costs. So I am good for about another 3 years before the Medicare piece will kick in. Yes, SWMBO has to keep me in the lap of luxury I am accustom to. So the march towards the MOLC continues. .....

Happy Humpday Everyone. Today is my maiden voyage with the Feather AS-D2. After looking at the razor, I decided the MrEE brush would be a perfect match for the razor. Inspired by @Primotenore , I reached for a Mike's soap but went with Bay Rum instead of Vetiver. The MrEE brush did a wonderful job loading and lathering the Mike's Bay Rum. I loaded the Feather AS-D2 with a new Feather DE razor blade. I stuck with my traditional three pass shave. After touch ups and buffing I ended up with a drama free BBS shave. While this is a mild razor, it delivers a shave that is just as close as the much more aggressive R102. Thus far I very happy with the the razor. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

SOTD WEDNESDAY MORNING, MARCH 3, 2021

This morning’s shave featured an all Japanese shaving tools focus, and represented a supportive shave for my good friend, Clint, on his first AS-D2 outing. In that spirit I grabbed my own AS-D2. The Seki Feather AS-D2 was one of the first stainless steel safety razors and represents an engineered design improvement over its predecessor, the AS-D1, an altogether too mild safety razor with an exaggerated negative blade exposure resulting in a very mild shave. The AS-D2 was one of, if not the first safety razor to be constructed of marine grade 316L stainless steel via a CNC process. There were other stainless steel CNC built razors at the time (cf original Tradere), but they represented the use of other stainless steel alloys for the most part.

This razor was designed for “riding the bar” and featured a very narrow sweet spot that promoted a much more acute shaving angle taking full advantage of the hyper sharp Feather DE blade it was engineered around. I have a relatively thick heavy whiskers and used my AS-D2 a year or so ago to reduce almost three weeks of whisker growth following a hospital stay. It took it down like a champ, leaving me dolphin smooth. It required no extensive buffing, only an experienced knowledge of its very narrow sweet spot. Those who dismiss it as a “mild” razor just never learned the proper angle to shave with it. This morning it effortlessly sheared away my dome stubble in my usual two ATG passes.

In keeping with my Japanese shaving tools theme I selected the Tanifuji Airi 11/16, the first Japanese straight razor in my humble collection. My son, Ben, a straight shaver of several decades experience, has a very large Japanese silver and Tamaghane steel straight razor collection (100+). He provided me with this first razor after honing it on his then newly complete jnat progression. It was my first whisker-melting, Japanese silver steel shave. I now own two others, and am on the hunt for others guided by my son’s expertise. This morning, after a quick refresh last night, this petite little gem blazed through my mug whiskers in three slow, delightful passes, leaving me clean and refreshed with that delightful velveteen, porcelain smooth skin feel result I seek in every shave I undertake.

RAZOR: Tanifuji Airi 11/16 (Mug), Feather AS-D2 Safety Razor (Dome)
BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Rooney Ebony Pure Badger
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Pre de Provence Bergamot & Thyme AS Balm.

Real quick 2 pass with the gem feather weight, this art of shaving pairs nicely with the polo green aftershave, no cuts or irritation on this shave. Most importantly left with a close shave and smelling great. I order the edt for polo green so that will be great layering with the aftershave. Hope everyone is having a great day!
