In my younger days, I went on a work trip to Galveston with a couple of guys. We found ourselves at an all-you-can-eat shrimp house located on the Gulf of Mexico one night. The place was a local favorite. It was huge and crazy busy the night we were there.
The server asked,
"Would you like fried or steamed shrimp?"
Charlie replied,
"I don't care. Just strap on your roller skates and keep 'em coming!"
After we stuffed ourselves, one of my work buddies started to turn purple. He elected to go back to the hotel to eat a roll of Tums and pass out. He was an older guy...in his 30s...you know the type.
I looked at my other buddy and said,
"Wanna go out for a banana split?"
"Well, yeah!"
Minutes later, we found ourselves at another little establishment that happened to serve some mighty fine looking frozen treats. The server asked,
"What can I get for you?"
Charlie replied,
"Ice cream and plenty of it!"
I thought my buddy was gonna bust a gut laughing at me that night. We're both retired dudes now. I can call him anytime and remind him of our little adventure, and he'd be in tears laughing. Bad decisions but great friends and good memories.
When we meet for lunch, you're buying, my friend. And it may be costly.
