Another good shave with the GC Jaws today. Switched out the Sputnik for a fresh Russian Green and had 3 smooth passes. A little neck irritation to be honest. Finished with the vintage English Leather as opposed to the usual TdH dupe I'd usually pair with this fave soap. I'm on the fence with this splash. I'd put it in the same 'subtle' category as Clubman . The 70s in a bottle (you could say that about Brut as well, of course, but this is different). I'm on the fence about keeping it. It is a powerhouse- I keep waiting for a comment from SWMBO or even my smarmy offspring...and I get nothing. Odd. I do hate the plastic travel bottle (and the matching cologne bottle too). It is pleasant on dry down, though. Not decided yet.

Great post, Jason. I am on "almost" the same page regarding English Leather. I gave my vintage bottle away. Burned my nostril hairs. Nasty juice.

Regarding my weight loss, on Jan 28th, I was 215 lbs (the heaviest I have ever been in my entire life). Yesterday, I was 194 (back to my usual "upper range." I like to be around 185 honestly. I'm 5'10" so that keeps my BMI out of the "obesity" range according to the chart on the doctor's wall... Plus my clothes fit better.

Thank you , Joseph! Now that I've finally been able to settle my tasks into a manageable routine, I will find time to make an occasional afternoon sandwich...

Unfortunately, things will not slow down until an unfortunate and inevitable event occurs. I will explain more at the end of this post.

For those of you that would like to know, I'd like to explain my current situation in more detail. I have not been trying to be evasive; I have just not had the mental willpower/motivation to expound on my circumstances. I'm getting to the point now where I feel comfortable with some dialogue, so, here's the "short" version...

My Mother has Glioblastoma - a stage 4 brain cancer that is untreatable and has no cure. It's a very aggressive cancer that had a VERY quick onset in her case. I have moved her into my home and I am now her 24/7 caretaker. My step father is also living with me as well now. After his 70 day stay in the hospital this past Fall, he has still not recovered physically and is not able to help me with Mom's care at all (except for being in the same room with her and being able to alert me if she immediately needs something.).

The kids and I visited her in AL the first week in January. She seemed fine then, but maybe just a bit more relaxed than her usual self. I knew she was under a lot of mental and physical stress from her daily tasks of taking care of my step-dad, so I thought that may have played a part of her mood.

While I was back at home during the next couple of weeks, I stated noticing a sharp difference in her communications. She and I usually talk or text almost daily. Her conversations/replies became very short and often confusing to me. My step dad finally alerted me in the third week of January that she has been showing progressive signs of dementia and severe confusion. I insisted that he make her go to the family doctor there just to get a check-up. On Jan 28th, she had her appointment and then went immediately to their local hospital in Marshall County. She spend one night there and the next morning, they immediately transferred her to UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. I went to visit her at UAB and immediately knew something major was wrong. After about 10 days of a mountain of tests/scans, etc., the doctors has a Tumor Board meeting to discuss her case. That is when I got the call on Feb 9th from an Oncologist from UAB. He gave me the diagnosis and said there was nothing else to be done to improve her condition.

On Feb 10th, I drove the kids (and my dog) to their house in Guntersville, dropped them off, and I then drove to UAB to pick up my Mom. We spend one night at their house so that we could gather any clothing, meds, supplies we may need here at my home in Marietta. My son, Ethan, drove one of their cars back so we could all get back here comfortably (Mom has two dogs too).

On Feb 11th, we all drove back to my home and have been here ever since. She will be here until the end.
It has been a huge struggle for me to get accustomed to learning all that needs to be done and also how to effectively do all of those things. Mom requires total care as she is "non compos mentis" and is unable to mentally do anything for herself. I feed all of her meals, give her all the medications, clean her, change her diapers/pajamas, wake her up in the morning, put her to bed at night (which requires me to completely lift her in the air to lay her correctly in position on the bed and anything else that needs to be done throughout the day. I installed a bed rail to ensure she would not fall out at night. When the time comes, Hospice said they could supply a hospital bed.

Mom was in charge of all of their banking and household bills. So, I now have the task of taking over all those duties and researching all that needs to be paid and then getting them paid. That has been a much larger task than I thought. Also, in her last weeks at home with "semi-dementia," Mom started ordering products and some subscription services from late night TV commercials. I've had to investigate all of those to cancel. So far, I have been able to identify and cancel 8 accounts and still have two more to research.

On top of that, as a full time single father, I still have to care for my own two children, my dog, and all of my usual daily household/family duties. Now those usual duties have just increased by adding two more adults and two more dogs to the mix.

Hospice has been some help, fortunately. A nurse (LPN) visits twice per week to check on Mom. A bath aide (CNA) visits twice per week as well to help Mom with that task. A Chaplain comes once per week to help and has been providing us with communion the past two visits. The visitations are not set in stone, so I am constantly on the phone scheduling the various visits from the nurses/aides. Fortunately, Hospice has supplied all of the diapers, "pee pads," Ensure/Boost drink supplements and some cleaners/wipes. They delivered an oxygen machine last week that I'm told will be required later.

So...that is my story. Any prayers are much appreciated.

To my unsophisticated nose they're pretty close. Et Tu seems fuller if that makes sense. Longevity goes to Et Tu by a large margin.

I did a short trip Sunday through Monday with some friends to a place called Gapyeong, it is on the North Han River. Driving against the traffic it was just and hour and 20 minutes away. I was able to bring my travel razor, Karve and a stick of Tabac. There was hiking, golf, whiskey, wine, beer, Korean BBQ and cigars.

Still using a straight most days, today was Snail Forge Wootz steel razor. A late start a work allowed me enough to time the extra pass, WTG for the win, epic shave. Some vintage Rive Gauche for the frag heads on the thread.

It has a bitter herbal opening that some might find a hard time enjoying but now that the temps are getting warmer, fragrances get sweeter off my skin in the heat, that bitterness mellows and it takes on a slight sweetness along with the green notes in this fragrance. I specifically got this one for personal enjoyment but surprisingly I’ve been getting complements with this fragrance, so maybe it works on me after all.

Ok, I decided to bowl lather this evening since I have time. Usually, I load the brush from the puck and then go to the bowl to whip up the lather. This time I used a plastic knife to cut a little sample to press and spead it in the bowl. Stirling is a soft soap so it was easy to do.
I decided to use Christmas Eve because it still is winter and I like this scent a lot. Be forwarned. I will use it any time of the year. Did 2 passes for an in between smooth shave plus ( IBSS+). Did get a tiny weep on my lower right neck, but it disappeared without my intervention. Usual post shave routine and ending with the matching aftershave was heavenly. Tomorrow will be a no shave because Saturday Mad Max will be making a special appearance. It will be #250 traditional straight shave and #500 open blade shave. Have a good evening fellas! Up at 4 am (IKR? Ewwww) But have a long day of driving to get my stepdad to the VA for a follow up to his heart surgery last week (AV Nodal Ablation and a pacemaker) Basically in layman's terms they burn the parts of the heart that signal your heartbeat so it won't any more and then add a pacemaker to tell your heart to beat but at least it will be regulated and not race to 170 whenever it decides to. This surgery is a last resort surgery for when meds and other surgery's wouldn't work. Seems to have helped so just his follow up appointment. Hr drive to him and 3 hours to the VA and then I reverse it to get home. Not complaining as I'd do ANYTHING in my power for this man. On to the shave which is Wool Fat today with the King C. Gillette. Did we all hope Gillette would do something more like they did in years go by? YES !! Did we think they would in today's business realm do it the way we wanted? NO !!!!! And they didn't disappoint us. Is it a Gillette ? Must be as it says it on all the packaging Just a stamped out copy of others and a basic mild shaver but it gets the job done. I find the handle slippery, so I usually........................I say usually but this is probably only the second time I've used it. I used a Carbon R2 Handle so I had some grip. Easy shave for when you're half asleep. Topped with some Vetiver that I don't think will annoy someone in a vehicle with me for hours. Who knows maybe I should hit something hard like Spicebomb just to see if I can get him to ask me every few minutes, "Are we there yet?" Hope everyone has a great day and for those that are dealing with aging parents and the stresses of caring for them, Hang in there and stay strong. I know you remember how many sleepless and stressful days/nights they did the same so you could breath and enjoy life as you are now. That thought keeps us all going. I'll be thinking especially of @b1hart and @Droo78 while driving today, Have a stupendous day Everyone !

Happy Friday Everyone. I just had to use the Fat for a Fat Friday shave. By weight this puck is already over 1/3 gone. At this point, I can safely say I would buy a refill of MWF. I decided to stick with my extended mini focus on the Feather AS-D2. Three passes and touch ups caught the baby. I was not quite so aggressive buffing my lower right neck today so none of that red stuff leaked. A splash of Bay Rum aftershave and I am off to my office for the morning and a client site for the afternoon. I hope everyone has a fantastic Friday.

The Yaqi synthetic (my girly man brush) whipped up a very large amount of the Fat this morning. I apparently loaded way to much soap and I think I had enough for three shaves this morning. The Fat is just good stuff.

The King C. Gillette is a mild kitten. I think I slept through part of the shave. Three smooth passes with no hiccups.

A little witch hazel and some Clubby and this one was in the bag.

Sticking with a piece of equipment is certainly the best way to master it.
The Voskhod blade made its second and final appearance working with the '08 SR.
Fat Friday and my buddy Mitchell really came through.
The Polo 8 has enough backbone to pick up plenty of soap and deliver it with panache to my face.
Standard passes and a careful ATG pass on the neck left me very smooth.
No irritation, but it was evident that the blade would not return for a third at bat.
Decided to layer two scents today, applying a base of the straight Oud, Dehn al Oodh Malaki,
followed by some generous spritzes of the Avon.
You gotta like Oud to try this. Not recommended for the faint of heart.

Well, I'm happy to call today "Fat Friday" as I returned to my Thursday shave with MWF, along with the Bill Neumann A.S.(Heartwood). Only differantz was the Jayaruh brush(for today), #59. As with yesterday, I kept loading the Jayaruh throughout the shave, as there were times I couldn't see what I had just administered to my face and neck. Much like the invisible shaves I've done with Rise(the invisible gel that comes out of the small tube)and Agadir. Anyway, alll of that led to a nice shave alongside the face and neck, but some redness at South Central Porcupine Alley(which was painless).. Cactus came out good, but again with additional spreading. I missed an area at the jwline...will get it tomorrow. Bill Neumann's Heartwood was once again a fine finish. Most Excellent.

Fabulous three passes shave this morning with the W & B razor. The Dogwood Handcrafts brush easily whipped up a slick and voluminous lather. The end result was a super smooth and comfortable shave. It is avatar change day lather this afternoon.

Yet another drama free shave with the 'crat. I face lathered a nice rich lather from the Stirling and the Maggard SHD Fan knot. Brand new Astra SS in the 'crat and a quick and easy 2 pass shave with very little cleanup. The Alum was kind and the AS was refreshing. I really enjoy shaving with this gear, but I'll be ready to try other gear as soon as the month is up.

Sticking with a piece of equipment is certainly the best way to master it.
The Voskhod blade made its second and final appearance working with the '08 SR.
Fat Friday and my buddy Mitchell really came through.
The Polo 8 has enough backbone to pick up plenty of soap and deliver it with panache to my face.
Standard passes and a careful ATG pass on the neck left me very smooth.
No irritation, but it was evident that the blade would not return for a third at bat.
Decided to layer two scents today, applying a base of the straight Oud, Dehn al Oodh Malaki,
followed by some generous spritzes of the Avon.
You gotta like Oud to try this. Not recommended for the faint of heart.
