Very cool, Danny. It doesn’t have to be for everyone, it has to meet the standards and aesthetics of the talented craftsman who drafted and constructed it. Great work!

Yup, I use a 24mm knot in a 1” bored hole or a 28mm knot in a 1 1/8” bored hole. You can get expanding collett chucks in those sizes as well, to hold it from the hole as well.

The Red is Stunning, imho. I believe you will be very happy with your choice. I ordered 3 knots from APShave- a limited run Silvertip, a dark brown Synthetic fan and a cheap flattop boar (only a few bucks as he feels they are shedders...I thought ‘why not?’ and added it to the order). I’ll see what I like it in the best.

Great job on the handle and razor, Dave. Quite the MacGyver work.

Thanks Jason, it really didn't take much. I just had to be willing to throw out a $60 handle if I failed and was dragging my feet.......

I used to bore out each hole with lathe tools so I could get to any diameter I wanted. The first LEs were done this way. Drilling with a forstner bit in a Jacob’s chuck on the lathe is easier. You can get most every size in mm, so you can still use any knot you want, but you will have to finish the bottom off of the lathe unless you have a way of holding the handle from the top. I got two Expanding Collett Chucks from Beall in the two sizes I mentioned earlier, which allow me to finish the bottom of the handles on the lathe. It does limit me to 24 or 28mm knots, though. I encourage you to check out the brushmakers forum if you want to see pics.

    Razor: Merkur 34C
    Blade: Personna Platinum (5)
Brush: Rubberset Aluminum 400 #3 Boar Original knot
    Soap: Nuavia Verde
    Aftershave: Old Spice Lime
    Bowl: The Castle Shave Co.

Guess I'm doing a shave soap rule with Nuavia. I have two more to use then on to something else. It is a great soap in my opinion. I'll stay with my Rubberset Aluminum brushes until I have used them all. The Merkur 34C is a fine razor. I did have one come apart on me one time. It took me forever to get it together again.

Thanks Clint and I think you are right. This is probably just a starting point / rabbit hole. If you have a four jaw chuck on your wood lathe I can see no reason why you could not turn Delrin on your lathe.

I saved this picture of a brush on my phone a while back. I really like the shape of this one and it would look great in Delrin. Maybe one day.
