I know a pastor who leads a biker church and invited me to his sunrise Easter service at Smith's Point in Mastic. I said that I would have to get up at 5 am and that's too early for me. I thank God that I have a Sunday 6pm service. I love church, but 2 services! Lol!

SOTD MONDAY MORNING, APRIL 5, 2021

The Ellis and Allan 8/8 Stubtail focus continues with increasing success on this Micromatic Monday after Easter’s celebration yesterday! The mug shave is settling in as I learn the ins and outs of this 200+ year old razor. The three pass shave was excellent, giving me the opportunity to again truly appreciate master restorer, Glen Mercurio’s work.

His selection of bone scales, an amber wedge, brass pins and the beautiful custom period beehive washers by Austin Kennedy are all in keeping with that time in history. But it’s the silence of the shave that sets this old razor in good company with my H. Hobson, another old, solid Sheffield cast steel wedge. I do enjoy the shave quality of early wedge design straight razors.

The dome shave featured a superb example of Gem bladed safety razors, my Micromatic OC. These razors never fail to deliver an extremely close satisfying shave, particularly when loaded with a PTFE coated blade. This capable little safety razor and it’s successor, the ClogPruf, really deliver the goods in two very pleasant ATG passes. I feel, refreshed, cool and dolphin smooth!

RAZOR: Ellis & Allan 8/8 (Mug), Gem Micromatic OC
    BLADE: Pella PTFE Gem
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: JT Sapele/Resin Handled Omega Pro48 Boar
    SOAP: Fine Snake Bite
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Fine Snake Bite AS Splash.

Lovely shave Jason! Spring is upon us. Oh man! I just realized its spring break. My boss is on PTO. My kids are out of school. My wife is planning to take the 3 youngest to visit her parent's house and I finish the first batch of handles. It's time to make a MAYhem blade.

Took the advice of those who suggested working the edge on a pasted strop.
Better. I have edges that offer up a smoother shave and mos def© prefer them to this Wosty.
Sticking with the fougère shave soap. I am committed (should be, anyway) to finishing this
product off. MdC goes a long way!
Once again, I was more successful working the chin. Found a semi-comfortable grip with
my right hand to facilitate the ATG on the right side. Sort of awkward, but at least I can see in the mirror.
    Post-shave included the usual suspects.
Finished off my bottle of Proraso ASB.

This balm, in the newer bottle, has to have been reformulated. It's MUCH stickier than my old bottle.
For the price, I will find something else. I have some Stirling glacial unscented I will move to tomorrow.

Many don’t possess old man, wrinkly, dry skin like me, Dave, or use glycerin juiced balms to mitigate effects, like Clint! I prefer to avoid the drying soaps which to others aren’t an issue. :)

Nice shave, Troy! Great work reshaping the Buck knife. The Spyderco Triangle Sharpener may be just the ticket, if you want to avoid the precision $200 sharpening systems. :)

Well like I said, I wasn't gonna just use adjustable razors this month and that will stand true. Decided to switch things up and go back to "Old Reliable" the Gillette Blue Tip. Lots of audio feedback from this razor today. I think I found another good blade that pairs well with this blue tip. "Rapira Platinum Lux". I mean what do you expect it is Russian. I have never been let down by a Russian blade before. 3 passes ended in an extremely close shave with no weepers or irritation. The diverdown soap made an excellent lather as always. The burn from the aftershave was one of the most intense burns I have gotten from any aftershaves, BEWARE that spikenard note is not to be messed around. It gives a very cool blast that adds to the burn. I'd recommend splashing on some thayers witch hazel before directly throwing this on freshly shaven skin. IMG_20210405_093356.jpg
