Nice shave, Dave. My bride was making noises about moving to TN. It’s beautiful country, but just too rural for this city boy! Tornadoes! No thanks! :)

Fabulous Feather Fat Friday shave, Clint! I love my AS-D2 as you know. It’s a spectacularly well-engineered razor, and when loaded with its branded blade, unbeatable! :)

Oh yeah! It is Famex Friday.

    Famex Caged Head
    Astra SP (fresh)
Greydog turned cherry with shave forged synthetic knot.
    Soap Commander Libery shave soap.
American Tobacco by Andy Hilfiger cologne.

Dave @Dave in KY was gracious and loaned me the Famex to try out. He also sent his working Stahly handle for me to try out and an Enders razor to add to my den. Thanks a bunch Dave....y'all Kentucky boys are alright.

Nothing to really say about the soap except is was just good stuff the morning.

    Onto the Famex.

I have always admired the caged heads. They are very unique and are just great looking razors. I honestly thought I would never get to hold one much less shave with one so the ATT focus got put on hold for a while.

The exposure is adjustable on the Famex by tightening or loosening the handle. I tightened the handle down which gave a minimum exposure for the first pass. First pass was awesome. I loosened the handle up a little and open the throttle up. Oh yeah....me likie a lot. No drama and an easy angle to find. Not quite a BBS but a GEFW shave........good enough for work.

The alum was barely noticeable and I finished the shave off in the usual manner.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and it is going to be hard to put the Famex back in the mail to Dave.....we are bonding. :D

    Thanks again Buttercup!

Well, today is the supposed arrival of the Private Oud from Swiss Arabian.....I wonder if they'll flip in something for free, as does Doc Ezlovan with the orders he gets at Stoylin. And they DID!!samples of 5 other Private scents.

I'm not sure I'd go for that particular Soap Commander, but they do have a nice variety.

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, APRIL 9, 2021

Welcome to Wool Fat Friday! There are certain razors that are classics, and without a doubt the R. Saito SK3 7/8 fits the billing! Designed by the Royal Barber, Ryuichi Saito, to the Japanese throne, it just feels great in hand. After a touch up on the Naniwa 12K followed by two pasted and a leather stropping, it obliterated my mug stubble in three slow luxurious passes floating on a carpeting of slick, MWF lather.

This was my second outing with my son’s blue resin handle fitted with a Silvertip Badger knot, and all I can say is, “me likee”! What a great lather builder. The knot is incredibly soft, but still has just the right amount of backbone. Unlike many who face lather their MWF, I prefer bowl lathering. And not all brushes are up to it, but this one certainly delivered gobs of thick, rich, slick lather. Slathering it on my mug really felt good.

After that great mug shave, I took advantage of the rich, slick lather remaining in my lather bowl. As I said above, the brush felt so good that I again spent extra time painting the lather on my dome. The Gibbs Adjustable #17 is the French razor that inspired the Rex Ambassador design. This morning, after nipping the tabs on a Polsilver, and loading it, I swept away my noggin stubble in two ATG passes. I do like the blade feel on this little razor! I feel refreshed, clean, and velveteen smooth!

    RAZOR: R. Saito SK3 7/8 (Mug), Gibbs Adjustable #17
    BLADE: Modified Polsilver DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: BG Blue Resin Handled Silvertip Badger
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Pre de Provence AS Balm.

A scary drive home, glad you made it safely.

I’m with you, I find the mild razors require more technique. I find it hard to keep them in their narrow sweet spot.

Thank you Joe. I love the AS-D2 as well. I was reading on DFS and found a post where someone used the iKon B1 base plate on the Feather razor. I might give that a try myself

Luckily we don't get bad weather too often. One of our clients just moved to downtown Knoxville. According to her, Knoxville is a very up and coming city with new businesses relocating to the area. She commented that it will be the next Austin. I am not sure about that but Knoxville has long been one of favorite cities in the south. I could see retiring there at some point. The nice thing is TN has no state income tax and a relatively low cost of living.
