I have been keeping my eye out for (and buying) Cremo body washes and deodorants at TJMaxx (Marshall's, Home Goods, etc.) stores because I really like the scents and the product quality. I have resisted purchasing any shave sticks because I find their shave creams merely adequate (even the "lathering" type) and I'm not running out of creams/soaps any time soon. Recently though, I picked up one of their Coconut Mango shave sticks for three dollars because it smelled so good. I tried shaving with it the other day and it seemed that I used an awful lot of product.
Today, I decided to go side-by-side with an Arko stick and compare. The Cremo product is very soft and seems more like cream than soap once you start rubbing it on your wet face. I seemed to get as much product smeared down the side of the container as what ended up on my face. The Arko stick, while soft, is definitely harder and more like a soap.
Two separate brushes to avoid mixing products. The Cremo side was typical of the brand and did not really lather much. The Arko side lathered nicely.
Passes were similar with a little more cushion on the Arko side and comparable glide.
After each pass I rinsed and reapplied product. The Cremo side was the same each time. The Arko side improved each time as the soap retained by the brush continued to build upon the new application. Oftentimes with a shave stick you need to apply product with each pass but by the third pass with the Arko I did not have to add much at all while the Cremo side required the same amount of product each time.
Long and short of it. Don't waste your money even if it's only 3 bucks and it smells good.
