It is a very fine shave in the books, Barry! I prefer aggressive razors. Have a great afternoon!

Great shave Dave! I have seen First Line soaps being used on youtube and it seems like a good performer. Have a safe trip.

Happy Tuesday Everyone. I had intended to go with Mike's Bay Rum for today's shave but decided to stick with La Toja Shave Cream at the last minute. One more shave with the La Toja and it will be gone. I guess I know what I am using tomorrow. Three passes and touch ups ended in a drama free BBS shave. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday.

May 11 - tried a different soap this morning. Mickey Lee Soapworks Jefferson Square provided a slick lather that got the job done in 2 passes for a DFS.

Colibri (Hummingbird) safety razor with 1.10mm base plate.
    Astra SP and Feather
    Yaqi Dandelion synthetic brush.
Stirling Soap Executive Man Soap and splash.

I have not used Stirling in a while so I decided to bring it out this morning. Great lather this morning.

I wanted to revisit the Colibri 1.10mm plate after getting a few shaves in with the Yates. I made a pass with the Astra and it was feeling a little tuggy so I throwed the Feather in and what a difference. I normally have fits with the Feathers but they seem to work exceptionally well in the Colibri. A couple of smooth passes that were drama free. The Colibri 1.10mm feels a lot like the Yates but it has a smaller sweet spot. Once you find that spot it is an awesome slicing machine.

Finished the shave off the usual way.

    To quote Barry @palmolive fox.........

My face is feeling super smooth and smelling divine. ;)

Below are are few comparison photographs of the Colibri and the Yates. Different animals with different personalities but great shavers that will not disappoint.

The Colibri weighs in at 3.56 ounces. The Yates at 4.2 ounces.

    Have a great day gentlemen.

I’m guessing…..you may have touched the DX during the capture (on your iPhone’s screen viewer) to have the iPhone’s camera narrow the focus. This triggered a couple of things, one of which is likely the spot metering function. If the touch was very near or on the white object that is holding up the blade, then the metering for exposure was also set for that white object, there by setting the other areas (and rest of the image) to be under exposed, which creates the effect of the darker vignette.

The iPhone’s camera the last few versions is very advanced. I use it solely nowadays for my 30dc images, and most images where I don’t need zoom lens capability. If you want to truly unlock the power of the iPhone’s camera, check out the Halide app. Not inexpensive, but it gives one DSLR capability. I got lucky….I was an early adopter of the app, purchased when released, and am grandfathered in for awhile longer in all its features without the yearly subscription. But if I found it now, it’s completely worth it in my opinion.

Super details on iPhone metering if interested:

While this article is about the 5 best iPhone camera app replacements, Halide holds no equal, (again imho):

    Mike's~~Simpson 57 "Douglas"~~1947 Gillette Super-Speed/Personna 74~~Armaf/Rasasi
So...the variable today is the razor. Went with a known commodity, the 1947 Super-Speed.
Day two with the Personna 74 and this was a very smooth shave...BUT, was it because I
bowl-lathered the Mike's vetiver and really got it well-hydrated?
(You can see how luscious this lather turned out)

Or...was it because the blade gap is less than on the Barbasol FH?
    Or...was Primo's technique simply better?
Perhaps, it was a combination of the three. :signs002:
    Results were excellent.

    Screen Shot 2021-05-11 at 08.56.52.png

It was suggested to use a 5:2 ratio, so that's what I did.
5 sprays of the Armaf and 2 sprays of the Rasasi.
Friends, this is my favorite layering...so far.
Take a look at the notes:

    Screen Shot 2021-05-11 at 08.59.17.png

    Screen Shot 2021-05-11 at 08.58.53.png

Right away, you can see the fruity top notes. They combine well.

Jasmine is the heart note of both.
    Amber/Ambergris, Patchouli/Woods compliment each other.
This is a winner, that I will mos def© use again.

My "Throwback Thursday" shave will be on Saturday for this week,. Course it's been done before, and probably will again down the road.

Thanks a lot Danny...sure will,. I think the secret has been in taking longer to load my soaps when wet-shaving. Course Gillette Foamy's spread strength speaks for itself, as I've been saying.

    Shavette Shave # 129

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: Razor Retro Shavette
Blade: Kai Captain Pro Titan Pro Touch MG
    Brush: Ever Ready 200T
    Lather: Loose Screw Uncomfortably Numb
    Aftershave: Floid Genuine
    Brut
    Additional Care:
    Stirling Alum Block
Thayer's Witch Hazel - Aloe Vera

Travel day shave. I will be looking and smelling good for the trip back to NY. I will be back again in a couple of weeks.

Today shave featured the AC type Shavette with the Kai blade. The blade is still delivering close shaves for it’s fifth use. To bin or not to bin that is the question. My face is super smooth, clean and velveteen as Jeff, @jgreenepa, so eloquently states. The results, as expressed by a silent alum, fall into the @Keithmax Epic category.

Hope you have a great day gentlemen.
