Time to ‘poke the bear’ ….:D

Straights and DE blades are both made of various blends of steel, so theoretically…..

DE blade manufacturers started adding coatings to compensate. Straight razor users have to master their stropping techniques.

    With either, technique trumps tools.

Aaahhhh, the age old debate. Which is better?

IMO, cause we’re letting it all hang out, the one that’s in my hand at the time, when steel meets skin, cause either can cause the crimson to flow just as red, and I want a fantastic skin smooth shave…:eatdrink013:

No poking, good thoughts, Blair. My thinking is that when I have only 24 hours of growth, because a DE blade is MUCH thinner, it can more easily slice off the protruding hair than a thicker straight blade. Now, as you said, in the right hands (and maybe mine aren't those), it matters not what blade is used, a BBS is easy to achieve.

5/16 - I found a blade that does not work. The Polsilver stainless and the Windsor and my face did not agree. Of course, I had 3 days growth, but tugged and did not really cut and gave me a couple of little weepers. So for passes 2&3, I returned to Astra and ended up with a great shave.

Wonderful photo and shave Barry. I hope you have a great Sunday

    Excellent shave and photo Dave.

Great looking shave Troy. At least you know to avoid Polsilver blades.

    Shave variables:
    Razor/Soap

I wanted to compare yesterday's Shavette shave with today's traditional straight shave.
Lathered with the T+S soap, which does produce an excellent base.
Slickness is above average and protected my skin quite well against a keen edge.
The Portland is a smallish blade, but it's the edge that cuts, so size doesn't really matter. (Rimshot)

Rather than poking the bear, I did poke my cheek, but didn't draw any blood.
Three pass shave with excellent results.
No discernible difference compared to yesterday.
My scent of choice is one I rarely reach for; not because I don't love, I do, but I
want the right occasion to wear it.

While the heart note of rose is quite common for the middle-eastern "Oud" scents,
this perfume opens with a blast of fruits, led by Japanese Yuzu.
Keen eyes will have noticed that my shave soap has a dominant accord of Yuzu.
The Kashmir is probably the most elegant of all my middle-eastern scents,
which tend to smack you in the face or assault your nose with a barnyard accord.
Not so with Kashmir. It's as soft on the nose as the fabric similarly named.
    Love this juice.

Gee, that's too bad Troy. I have used Polsilvers and I thought they were great blades. Everyone's beard and skin type reacts differently to the same blades. Thank God for the many brands we can use for shaving..

    Good morning!

I've had facial hair in one form or another since early February. Daily shaping, conditioning and Argan oil with a couple of light trimmings along the way. I was really trying to give my beard a chance. Even with the daily treatments it was hard, brittle and unruly. Broke out the electric trimmer to knock down roughly 1.5" inches of growth then on to the Wunderbar for a glorious three pass full face shave. Man I feel good! Near BBS and just the lightest tickle from the alum.

    Have a great day!

Great shave Jim! I always had a beard, or goat until I got into wetshaving. Facial hair is a pain to keep neat and trimmed so I prefer the clean look. I guess that I was a slow learner to appreciate my beardless face.

    Thanks, Joe!

I only grew my beard out because it has been so long since I've had the opportunity. Probably be a long time before I give it another go.
