Monday was the usual back-to-work safety razor shave. Joris DE, GSB, Tabac, and an Omega boar. The usual excellent result but no picture.

Tuesday starts a new straight razor theme, Teutonic steel, razors from Germany and Austria. First up is a Koraat 14 2.0 double-bellied hollow. CK-6 soap base and my Shavemac silvertip in an ebonite handle and I have the makings for an enjoyable shave that was epic in it's results.

Long time, no shave (five days). This one was great. Some of my shaver friends were discussing Moon Union, so I made a slight detour from the two other Moon soaps I've used this month and pulled out Union. Anyway, the shave was lovely - one of those where everything clicked.

Be well everyone, and have a good evening ... or morning, as the case may be.

    Greetings,

    Early morning shave.

My shaving set up this morning was absolutely brilliant!....I have mentioned before in many of my postings ,the vast majority of my shave set ups are very in-expensive. It just goes to show that you don't need expensive shaving items to get a good acceptable shave. It's all down to technique & shaving confidence.

A Enjoyable 3 pass + pick ups close comfortable shave with no errors to report...Finishing the shave off a with a generous splash of Brut ~ Attraction Totale ASL.

My face is feeling super smooth & smelling divine.;)

Stay safe, and enjoy your day ladies & gentlemen.

Awesome shave Barry! I agree that you do not need expensive gear to get great shaves. However, I do believe that you get a different emotional experience when using high end stuff. Personally, I have one high end soap and aftershave and that's Gentlemen's Nod Signature Series. and I bought it because the scent was supposedly great. Unfortunately, it does smell nice, but the scent strength is almost non-existent so I am not thrilled with it. However, my experience with my only 2 custom razors, is quite different. In fact, I will be using my Max Sprecher for today's shave. Anyway, have a great day!

Happy Tuesday Everyone. The Chubby Zenith boar tore into the soap whipping up a wonderful rich slick lather. This soap is disappearing quickly. I have not used the Henson razor recently so I decided to give it a go. Three passes and touch ups caught the baby. Overall a wonderful shave to start the day. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday.

NEW LC let me down a bit, finding weepers in 3 or 4 spots. Could have been the blade. It’s only 3 days old, but this was the 3rd face shave and also it did a full head shave yesterday, so I’ll try again tomorrow with a fresh blade or...might go back to the Windsor

The German Rapide was invented by a man called Scharff in 1894 and when his US Patent expired in 1911 the razor mechanism became very popular and was copied and reproduced by many other Manufacture's including, Henckels, Wester Brothers, Solingen and many others.....

The Rapide was designed to use a Single Wedge Blade...Some of the Rapide variation's will take a Modern SE Blade easier than others. Some of the Rapide Variants have somewhat small and delicate blade stops that will not hold a Modern Blade so easily. The original Wedge Blade that was originally intended for the Rapide are literally Wedged into place and the blade stops only provide a minor and secondary function in securing the wedge blade. My JA Henckels Rapide does accept a Modern Gem blade.

1892 — German Patent for the Rapide safety razor
    Patent: DE64903
    Invention: Sicherheitsrasirmesser
    Filed: Saturday, 19th December 1891
    Published: Thursday, 13th October 1892
    Inventor: Ernst Scharff

So for the 1st shave this morning I started with the Wedge that appeared sharp enough to shave.........wrong. Sharp enough to cut you and FEEL sharp but tuggy to shave with and will need honing to use. I did the right side of my face with the wedge before seeing it wasn't removing whiskers well enough. Easy swap to a Gem blade and the shave was on in earnest. This is an aggressive razor but smooth. Just need respect and a light to no pressure approach but you will be rewarded with an EXTREMELY close shave. I love the look and history of this thing as well as the Henckel branding. Glad to have it in the den. Will do a video on it eventually as I have the goal to use on video each of my vintage razors to document them going forward. Hope all have a splendid day !!
