I believe Renaissance Wax is an excellent product. And for those of us who store our straight razors for long periods of time Ren wax has always been recommended. My question is: if you had a razor and treated the blade with Ren wax and the scales or wedge started to deteriorate (cell rot) would your blade be protected? And a related question -- if you treated the scales with Ren wax would this slow down or stop cell rot?

No, it wouldnt protect against Cell Rot. I have an Otto Deutch Hans, that has cell rot. I have had it a couple of years, and store it with the blade open, and mineral oil on the b!ade. No signs of rot, its just a PITA to store this way.

Why dont you replace the scales?

Because the scales look nice, and the blade is all pitted looking from the original cell rot damage.

Based on your experience is cell rot continuously progressive or does it progress to a point and then stabilize?

Continually progresses. But, it all depends on the razor. Some fast, some slow, but never stabilized.
