The ideal test I think at least to find the angle of attack is to make a second base plate and make one side without a guard on it. If it can't shave well or is super mild and safe without one then why bother even putting a guard on it then. Might as well build the angle of attack into the cap and call it a day.

HAHA. I love the the thinking that you put forth. Very much appreciate it. So can I add you to the list?
Then you can tear into with firsthand experience.

I would love to try it out....
But what if it's a great razor like the TAR....
    Oh the agony....
Guess I better stay on the sidelines.
    Looks cool as ever.
Once again Tom has a great creation.

Wait a second. I am lame. You are correct about the base. Just looking at my devette I can see where a problem may arise from the bluntness of the base on the TARMAX That can be fixed with a slight redesign to the edge.
I will wait for more feedback before I modify. As with my other razors. These are literally the first try and first off the machine. I just make sure they operate properly and give it a shave to see if it cuts hair. The rest I leave up to you all to help me along.

"Fancy"? Not typically a word i associate with Tom's Creations.

I don't know... The brass TAR is pretty darn fancy. It weighs more than my Dodge Challenger, solid brass, open combs that seem to go on and on for miles, and it will adjust until the screw let's go up the last thread on the head cap post.

It may look fancy. But it is simple in its design. I tried to make it pleasing to my eye with minimal effort so to speak.

Round 2. Here I switched to the thick plate, and started out on setting 5. This was better than yesterday, it's not the way I like holding a razor but maintaining a cutting angle was not too hard on most of my beard and head. I will admit to taking the Lord's name in vain however, as well as his humble servant Tom, when either the angle seemed awkward or the handle loosened in the head. No major damage done to the crash test dummy due to the mishaps. I still was frustrated trying to get to BBS on my head and brought forward the Temple (the razor, not the congregation) to finish up. It did splendid work.

Kai blade tomorrow for a wee bit more exposure, and maybe I'll whip out the SBS or Tradere for comparison.[IMG]

Oh and Tom I'll use a nylon washer and see if that keeps the handle-head interface from slipping.

Kai blade, thick plate. Good shave, less mumbling, only cursing was losing the setting during the shave. I think the nylon washer might have made it worse rather than better. Still, almost BBS, finished with the iKon SBS which I only use in its most aggressive closed comb side. I'm gonna use Tom's B400 brush more often now that I've changed my routine and have time to soak a brush.

I'm off with daughter and hound to a West Virginia resort for a couple days, I'll get back to Tarmax on Wednesday before sending it off to the next Dummy in waiting on Thursday.
