    Interesting shave today.

    Gold Dollar straight
    Dixie straight
    Fine Accoutrements Snake Bite soap
    Razorock 400 synthetic
    Cremo Bourbon and Oak EdT

Love me some Fine lather. I made it a little thinner for the straight shave today but vintage Fine soaps are hard to beat. It would interesting to see how the new stacks up against the vintage.

Bill @Edison Carter was gracious and sent me the Gold Dollar from his under ground honing lar.

I lathered up the cheeks to start with and went to work. I do not know a lot about straight shave but one thing I do know is that skin stretching is a must. The Gold Dollar is bigger than the Dixie and harder for me to negotiate around the face. I took my time and got the cheeks completed. It was slightly tuggy at times and it was a lot smoother on the second pass. The Dixie and the GD will pop the Styrofoam. I started on the neck alternating between the GD and Dixie. The first pass was tuggy at times as well and I could lot tell much difference between the blades other that the size. Second pass was a lot better. The alum was warm in a few places but I would consider to shave not bad and a success. I just need more and I mean a lot more practice.

Finished it off with some Witch Hazel and juice.

I'm so excited. I got on a pass around for the Essence by Tedalus Razor.

I appreciate @PLANofMAN heading this up and being so generous. I just hope I don't fall in love .... it is pricey but man is that razor gorgeous.

    Have a great day gentlemen.

    Great shave outing.

Scott hones better than much stuff I have had done by experts. Sharp & very smooth.

20 shaves in, you should be more comfortable. By 100, the confidence level in your routine should be well seated. Always be mindful of the edge.

    sdrge.jpg
I didn't shave over the long weekend (can't remember going that long in years, tbt) so it was up to the NEW and a Feather to take care of 3 days worth of growth. They did so with aplomb. I'm focussing on using this soap 2 or 3 times a week until it is gone and the usual, wonderful scent was a welcome addition to the shave again. Eschewed (northof49 copyright intact) the Jeeves Tobacco for the equally nice pairing of Bon Vivant.
I didn't buff the neck or jawline at all, but still came very close to being totally smooth. My face still feels soft 4 hours later and I'm getting minor whiffs of the splash. A wonderful start to the week. One more day with this razor/blade combo, methinks.
    Have a great day all!

A great write up today on your Straight experiences, Danny. I too love the Fine 3x milled pucks, but don't really wonder about the new soaps. To me, they are two different products made by two different manufacturers that just happen to have the Fine label on them. I would think the new ones are a variation or update (or similar to) of the TFS Super Tallow formula.
I have noticed that a lot of the old triple milled tallow pucks are slowly going away- the manufacturer of the Fine pucks in the Netherlands (they also made some for Fendrihan) is gone, as is Valobra. Many of the traditional makers have contracted out their products (some always did...) or have changed formulas away from tallow or are not triple milling.
MWF is still going, but I've yet to try it. Haslinger has a 3x puck with lanolin that I really like...Tabac is still around, obviously, and still smelling up the joint...;).
So many quality artisan soaps around, obviously, but I do really like the lathers from virtually all the triple milled tallow pucks I have, or have had.

Very nice shave Danny! Stretching the skin is very important to get a nice flat surface for the straight to glide effectively. The skin doesn't need to be so tight like you injected Botox in the area. Über tight stretching may cause ingrown whiskers. The tugginess may be due to slightly uneven placement of the edge on your skin. In any event, you are progressing well on open blade shaving. As far as the Essence by Tedelus, it is a nice looking razor, but I would not expect a straight razor newbie to spend that kind of money on a replaceable straight or a traditional straight. I didn't get Mad Max until I had more than a year and a half experience (20 months) open blade shaving. Right now, I would say to just take your time and enjoy the process. To really jumpstart your straight razor journey, I believe a one month focus would be beneficial. Yeah, I know you know our mantra. However you decide, the reg. straight shavers are cheering you on to victory.
