Thanks Gary! As you well know, vintage razors have an undeniable charm. It is great when you get awesome shaves with them.

The A plate sounds very functional. How do you find the weight of the Aluminum razor in comparison to the brass Karve, Jim?

The only Karve I have is the aluminum so I can't compare. I don't have a problem with lightweight razors in general. When I first started wetshaving I convinced myself that I prefer heavier razors based on nothing really. I got a Star Bakelite razor from Andrew @Linuxguile and it felt like nothing in my hand. Once the shave started I just subconsciously adapted to the lightweight. Since then I don't pay much regard to what a razor weighs.

i like the weight of the gillette range of razors, not into heavy so much.my heaviest razor is the 3rd gen brit aristocrat at 82g,though i rarely use it.i am more into balanced razors, not head heavy,so even my aluminum /bakelite techs are fun to use as they are nicely balanced as well.:)i have a karve 3" handle is use with my new deluxe head.not sure of the weight but it's a treat.

new deluxe red and black special with karve 3 inch handle.
the original handle is a common bar type and way too head heavy for my taste.
love this razor, still pondering a replate but a polished finish works for now.
    up for tomorrow's shave;)

I think I could have guessed that you like the weight of Gillette razors.

So many years of working on big equipment with big tools I really don't notice balance differences in something that weighs in at a few ounces. I guess if a razor was way off I'd notice it but I haven't come across that yet.
