Happy Friday Everyone. I am still using the R102/R41 but went with the Fat for my Fat Friday Shave. I have come to really enjoy Mitchell's Wool Fat shave soap and will certainly purchase a refill when this one is going. Before this mornings shave I had used 76 grams of the soap in 52 shaves for an average use of 1.46 grams per shave. For most artisan soaps, I average between 2 and 3 grams of soap per shave. I have found most artisan soaps are sold with a very high water content. Three passes and touch ups ended in another drama free BBS shave. Swati had given me a bottle of Thayer's Aftershave Balm that I decided to use today. Since the balm is unscented, I went with Cool Water EdT. I really enjoy the scent of Cool Water and need to use it more often.

Yes you do. I have had the Cool Water EdT for years and put it away when I started using all the different aftershaves. I am beginning to think I will not be replacing many the aftershaves when they are done.

Sanibel Island is beautiful, Jim. We spent some time there a few years ago. The Florida panhandle Gulf coast is worth a visit too. IMO, the beaches are a little nicer there.

 

Pro-tip: add Tabac cologne to the nebulizer. 10 hours of baby sleep guaranteed, with vim and vigor to spare the next day.

My parents did Sanibel many years ago for a nice vacation.

 

Yes, that someone was the man writing this sentence.

 

This morning, I did a repeat of yesterday's shave(Gillette Foamy Menthol followed up by Royal Copenhagen A.S.). Pretty routine. In the "Gillette v. Barbasol" argument, I'd have to go with Gillette only because it spreads better and always comes out nice and cloudy, not squiggly like a snake. I like Barbasol from the time it's on my face&neck til the end of the shave, but getting it on is awkward(for me anyway). Anyway, back to my shave. All went well except for a Knick down at Cactus Nation. For the second shave in a row, I caused the Knick in the same way. A little soap was left on, and I decided to shave it off. YEOWWWW. Maybe next time if there are small areas of soap, I'll just wipe'em off instead of using the razor. By "small areas" I mean where shaving didn't quite get all of it off. The Royal Copenhagen helped weaken it. Very Excellent. Now for a week of shavesoaps.

July Focus

MWF~~Rubberset 400/3~~Detroit "National"~~Vintage Kouros
July is turning out to be a "dark side success". The straight scoop is that if you use a tool consistently,
you get good at using that tool. Period.
While I have been using a straight razor for over 4 years now, it still requires practice,
especially if you intermix DE razors now and again.
I bowl-lathered the MWF, which was enhanced with a few drops of the TSD store's M-Bomb.
Results were very good, but what I have found that really kicks the fat-lather up the proverbial notch,
is after working the lather on the face, rub it in with your hands. This results in a MUCH less "airy"
lather and you can still go back over with a brush, but the foundation has been laid for a slick
and protective under-coating. Try it, Fat-lovers.
Decent neck-work with the rest of my face being quite smooth.
A deliberate over-spraying of the vintage Kouros would probably get me dirty looks at an office,
but I am not at an office, so ask me if I care? Go on, ask. I'll wait...
