Battle of the French cool, loser banished to Con Dao island. The Leresche 77 is milder than people may imagine but plenty effective with a Feather blade. The Vib'Raz/Feather provides more feedback (handle just snug) so is more capable when it comes to pick ups. 77 wins on cool, Vib'Raz on shave magic. MDC [IMG]

Fine shave this morning. 0:50 to load the Razorock Lime Burst soap onto the Jayaruh. Another one of those "You're gonna need that second pass" shaves, as I progressed with my first. I'm getting pretty good at going back to re-do areas that I miss(as there were a few of those today). The normal "ice-chipping" maneuver at the Porcupine Alley/Cactus Nation border (the jawbone). Slow and steady up NW Porcupine, not as much at NE. Aftershave was Clubman Reserve Gent's Gin....goes on chilly at first, but warms up a bit later.Nice comfy lime. Trying to finish off this bottle so I can get started on the other one I just ordered(GG). Swiss Arabia Oud Maknoon fragrance to close. I struggled a bit in getting it on, but it's down to its last drop. I flipped it. Nice job overall.. Outta This World Excellent.

    Mike's~~Simpson 57~~1958 D3 Adjustable/Wizamet SI~~Lavande 44 Rania J.
7th shave in August and for some reason, I keep coming back to my only adjustable.
Opened wide up and sporting a Wizamet SI (2) blade,
the razor felt quite smooth, especially because I laid down a
    terrific base of Mike's.
Superior soap; stunning scent; super slick and a pleasurable post-shave.

Earlier this year, I discovered the perfume house of Rania J.

Today, I chose her take on lavender:

Absolutely a world-class lavender. Complex, ethereal and soothing.
    This is a lavender-lover's dream.

SOTD SATURDAY MORNING, AUGUST 7, 2021

For this morning’s mug shave I selected a Thistle Cut 5/8. Thistles possess that same special fine grained NY/PA carbon steel shared by Genco, Case, and Cattaraugus made razors. And boy do they hold an edge! Last night I reset the bevel and took it right up to the Naniwa 12k where I would usually stop, but instead finished it on my newly acquired 9 Ball Slate with Ballistol. I then took it to the 4-sided pasted Constroption and finally to a Roo-skin bench strop. The resulting edge was easily at the Feather Super sharpness level, but without the harshness of a first non-palm-stropped shave with that blade on either my Feather DX or Tedalus Essence.

Since I’ve been shaving with beautifully crafted Jim Roe brushes lately, I grabbed a long-neglected JR Boar #374, a wooden Rubberset Tribute, from this talented maker and whipped up the two kinds of MWF bowl lathers I enjoy with my shaves. The Thistle Cut really felt good in hand and easily swept away the mug stubble in three slow really pleasant passes leaving me very smooth. I grabbed my Father’s Gold Gillette Black Beauty Adjustable (BBA) for my noggin shave to follow. After spending the needed time thickening up the MWF lather, the BBA did a more than serviceable job on the dome. I feel cool, clean, porcelain smooth, and ready for a bike ride.

RAZOR: Thistle Cut 5/8 (Mug), Gillette Black Beauty Adjustable
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: JR Boar #374
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Cremo Cooling Balm.
