20 some years ago I was working for a company located on Pawlings Rd. in Phoenixville where it crosses the Schuylkill. It started raining hard around quitting time. I drove home back roads to pick up the Turnpike in Exton. It had only started pouring buckets shortly beforehand. There were hillsides flowing 1/2”+ deep water. It was frightening, as you could only see it when the lightning flashed. I got a call from the boss early the next morning to come to the plant to initiate on contacting customers with notification of the flooding and our recovery plans. The Schuylkill had hit about 4.5’ up in the manufacturing plant and carried ‘God only knows’ how many barrels of printing inks towards Philly to never be heard from again. Bummer on the Mazda, it was a cool piece. I’d we don’t talk, safe travels westward.
What a shave, Joe! You’re really something! How many guys enjoy shaving with a meat cleaver? Just kidding! I’m glad you enjoyed your shave!
Lol! Thanks and I do not mind the good natured ribbing, Jeff. Next month it will be 3 yrs that I started straight shaving with my Dovo shavette. Looking back, I did not think that I was capable because of the nerve damage in my left hand; let alone buying custom ultra large straights to shave my face. I thank God for the ability to straight shave and to be part of the shaving community.
Well, I am a happy camper. I went to the CVS pharmacy in the same shopping center as my gym and lo and behold, they have Pinaud/Clubman Classic and Aqua Velva Ice Blue on the shelves. I did not buy the stuff, but I will soon because my bottles are almost empty.
Wow....you have to have a man card to shave like that! Very nice shave, Joe. I hope y'all have a good time tomorrow. Take care.
Thanks, Danny. I’m learning. Staging still life photos was never a strength of mine. I get stuck in ruts..
SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 3, 2021 I own two 4/8 razors, the new-to-me Klas Tornblom that I shaved my mug with yesterday, and this Simmons Hardware which has a Solingen steel blade, and also holds a great edge. I realize the trend now is towards huge width razors, or what I like to call “shave hatchets”, but they, at this point, hold no appeal for me. I expect to shave with one someday, but after yesterday’s shave with the little Klas Tornblom, I seem to be moving in the other direction. I was amazed at its efficiency and incredible sharpness. The little Simmons, after a brief refresh on the 4 pasted sides of my constroption delivered a sweet extremely close three pass shave. Not as close as the little Swedish masterpiece which accomplished the same results in two. A knowledgeable friend from the TSD straight razor group informed me that the Rockwell hardness for the Tornblom Swedish steel is about 70, whereas your average Solingen steel sits between 61-63. The little Tornblom’s steel is harder, holds a sharper edge and just cuts closer. The Cooper Monobilt, loaded with a Feather DE took care of my noggin in two ATG passes. I feel cool, clean and very smooth! RAZOR: Simmons Hardware 4/8 (Mug), Cooper Monobilt (Noggin) BLADE: Feather DE PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil BRUSH: MrEE Monster Tuxedo Synth SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with RR 888 Eucalyptus & Tea Tree AS Tonic.
OC Tech-Prismatic, Gentile-Yintal. OC Tech wasn't quite as efficient as I hoped but objectively speaking a really good shave. Head shave with the Gentile-Yintal (no shim) was as expected excellent. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
SEptember Tabac~~Simpson~~Mühle/Gillette Platinum Decided to end the work week off with a bang. Tabac. Loads easily. Super-thirsty and super-slick. Fragrant...obviously, subjective. The R41 is right up there with a Feather AC as far as sharpness and efficiency. Two passes; a few weepers; excellent shave. Broke out the alum and it spoke to me as I applied it. The juice is vintage, but I decanted it into a modern spray bottle.
I am so glad to hear you are ok Jeff. Flash floods are serious business. Hopefully you can get the car sorted.
