  4. Wonderful shave, pic, and gear like always, Barry! Have a good afternoon.
  5. Another quality "all-Stoylin" shave(today's brush was a Stoylin). 2 passes. I was careful to go over previous days' cuts&Knicks. No new ones. I suceeded in getting what I badly missed yesterday(just East of the ingrown hairs at Cactus Nation). Sandpiper is a Stoylin winner(for me, anyway). Will finish with this group tomorrow-until next time.

  9. Ah, good ol' Andrew...I wonder how he's doing. He PIFEd me Baker St. and Ramblin Man. I didn't quite go for Baker, but still have Ramblin Man. As you may recall, I got Sandpiper as a sample, along with Xecutive Man, Sharp Dressed Man, and Gentleman. Sandpiper jumped out at me almost immediately so I bought the full-size, which is close to the bottom now..I'm talkinabout the aftershaves.

SOTD SUNDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 12, 2021

Arrived back home yesterday on a 4 1/2 flight from San Diego on the 20th anniversary of 911. Brought the bride and stepson out to see La Jolla, CA, where I grew up seven decades ago. Unfortunately, immunocompromised me promptly caught a breakthrough Delta Variant Covid infection on my second day there, which after my three Moderna inoculations felt like nothing more than a bad cold.

After masking up, I was able to share Balboa Park, the smelly La Jolla Seal Beach, and other old San Diego area hotspots, along with being graciously allowed by the new owners to tour the house I grew up in. It was really nice to shave with a straight razor again. In my rush to leave, I’d forgotten to pack my Tedalus, but did bring the Rex Ambassador which kept me clean and smooth during the six mornings of the trip.

While there, we had dinner with my old childhood tomboy best buddy and her husband. We reminisced about old times and how she was the first girl allowed on our Babe Ruth Little League team. The fact that her grandfather was a Rear Admiral definitely helped grease the wheels on her acceptance onto the team. She also had an incredible arm, and could throw farther and harder than any of us. She played shortstop and was an awesome infielder.

For this morning’s mug shave I selected my Dubl Duck Goldedge 11/16. The three pass shave was an absolute delight after missing six days of my regular morning straight razor shaves. Having the Traveling Wilbury’s “Handle with Care” playing in the background certainly contributed. The Karve OC F plate delivered its usual two pass ATG noggin accompaniment, and all was right with the world. I feel cool, fragrant, clean and velveteen.

RAZOR: Dubl Duck Goldedge 11/16 (Mug), Karve F_OC (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Alpha Shaving T-400 Tribute with 26mm Manchurian White Badger Ferrule
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Canoe EdT and Cremo Cooling Post Shave Balm.

This is my 5th consecutuve day of shaving. It has been many years since I have done so. I am surprised that my skin held up using a shavette during this sequence of shaves. Anyway, I used Arko because it is very slick and I just like the smell. I have been using it for headshaves and this soap is awesome.
Did a 2 pass shave for a near BBS result, but did get a nick on my check because I was cavalier with the razor. The alum took care of it and very little trace of it remained.
It was a close, comfortable shave according to the minimal feedback from the alum. Topped the shave with witch hazel and then Old Spice.

Afterwards, I did a headshave with Cremo and my ShakeSharp with another 2 Gillette 7 o'clock blades. Got a great cueball result. Unfortunately, I did not take a pic with this setup. Have a nice day, gents!

  17. Another great SRB/Shake Sharp shave, Joe! Did you use Permasharps in the Shake Sharp? I’ve never shaved with those blades.

  18. Thanks, Joe, Raquel is 7 years older, and I didn’t go to high school in La Jolla. I wouldn’t have known her. Left in seventh grade. :)

  19. I did apply a little mineral oil when I first got the razor , though it moved freely, as some examples are locked up.
