SOTD MONDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 13, 2021

This morning I decided to have a full-on Japanese shave. My first Japanese silver steel straight razor was this wonderful Tanifuji Airi 11/16. It holds an amazing edge, and I never fail to have an excellent shave. It really feels good to be straight shaving my mug again, after a week with just a safety razor. Three very pleasant passes listening to that wonderful “Buttering Toast” refrain really set the tone for this morning’s mug shave. Of course, the Traveling Wilbury’s “End of the Line” playing in the background didn’t hurt.

The Feather AS-D2 was really one of the first all SS CNC-built, high end safety razors following on the earlier AS-D1, which was entirely too mild. The AS-D2 has been dismissed by too many impatient shave brothers and sisters as being much too mild a shaver as well. In fact, when equipped with a Feather blade, it’s probably one of the most efficient shaving safety razors on the planet. It just has a very narrow sweet spot, that once found, delivers an extremely close noggin shave as its two ATG passes did this morning. I feel, cool, clean and porcelain smooth!

RAZOR: Tanifuji Airi 11/16 (Mug), Feather AS-D2 (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: Rooney Ebony Finest Badger
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Pre de Provence Bergamot & Thyme AS Balm.

As the month approaches its halfway mark, a look at the survey shows "Might Break Out an SE or 2" with a strong lead over "Absolutely" and "100% Of My Shaves". Strong, but not quite commanding. Actually the last two that I mentioned are tied for second. The "Cookie" choice apparently still hasn't been told the race is on...with a nice big fat lovely "O".

A rushed but nice shave this morning. The blade is definitely starting to feel tired, but not yet tuggy. Two passes on 3 days growth and no nicks with only a slight bit of irritation.

Not sure if I will go for one more or just swap the blade for my next shave.

    Enjoy your day.

    Occam's Razor
    Feather Professional Super blade
    Razorock 400 synthetic brush
Above the Tie shave soap by Razorock
    Cremo Bourbon and Oak EdT

Same set up for yesterday and today.

Awesome Razorock lather again this morning. I'm really enjoying the Razorock soaps this month.

In keeping with the single edge theme I decided to break out the Occam's this weekend. I really enjoy this razor and it it a fun razor to use. It just might even edge the Hawks out. Three beautiful drama free passes and this shave was in the bag.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Monday!

I am doing well. Had a nice summer, despite that it was quite rainy. I am looking forward to sub teaching again this year and I still go to the gym quite frequently.

Now being 8 hours into the shave, I will be changing the blade for the next shave. While it was comfortable this morning, the shave just isnt lasting as long as it should.

    SE Shave # 214 - MICROMATIC MONDAY

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: GEM Micromatic Bullet Tip
    Blade: GEM Stainless
Brush: Big Cyprass 24mm Silver Tip
Lather: Ginger's Garden Obsession Type (1508.5 Project)
    Aftershave: Obsession A/S Balm
    Additional Care:
    Thayer’s Witch Hazel - Original
    Stirling Alum Block
    Dark Obsession EdT

Another beautiful albeit warm morning here on Long Island. I had my next to last X3Bar workout on the patio. I was tempted to jump in the pool afterwards but I have some chores I want to complete prior to Wednesday’s surgery. Following the completion of the chores, I jumped in the shower and followed up with today’s shave.

Thos afternoon I have a doctor’s appointment to get the final clearance for the surgery. To me it is rather redundant as I had the clearance at the end of Kuly. Unfortunately, as many of you may recall, the surgery at the beginning of August was canceled. Since 30 days has past, the entire pre surgery process must be completed again. I seem to hear “cha ching, cha ching.” :angry019:

This late morning’s shave is as good as it gets. Superb three passes with the MMBT has left my face dolphin skin smooth. I decided, post picture, to add a splash of the Osage Rub for a wonderful cooling feel to the uber smoothness.
A very nice finishing touch with the Dark Obsession to have me smelling great for a good portion of the day.

Hope you have a great day gentlemen.
