Thanks, Gary! I’m not 100% yet, but getting there. I'm grateful for my three vaccine shots. They definitely saved my bacon!

Another great Autostrop shave, Barry! Terrific photo and recap, as usual. Have you tried the Autostrop on your noggin yet? Enjoy your day.

Thank you, Jeff....I have yet to try a head shave with the Autostrop. My general rule of thumb is to do a 'No Guard" buzz cut with my Wahl Clippers every week, and a full head shave once a month, however, to kill my curiosity i shall give it a try out at the weekend with a fresh Personna Gem modified PTFE blade.

The "star" of my shave this morning was the A&E soap("Chase The Dragon"). Really a fine scent, and as I said in a previous post it's best to use an unscented aftershave so as not t0 waste the soap scent. Then I get a return post from Joseph, suggesting I use the "aftershave" of the same name he included in his PIF. I told him I thought it was a cologne, being that you spray it like most colognes, and just tap your face twice, like Jack Palance did in his Mennen Skin-Bracer ad. Course Jack just poured it onto his hand, as it doesn't call for a spray persuasion. Will be interesting to get Joseph's reply. Anyway....one thing I noticed right away about the "Dragon" is how well it lathers. There isn't much soap in the puck, which probably is the reason it produced the great lather.Hard to describe the scent, other than to say I find it very manly, sophisticated. . I got a nice shave from it...two passes-solid brushwork from the Stoylin "li'l brudder". (It may be a little brush, but it packs a big wallop). A couple red polka-dots at North Porcupine Alley, but they were well-controlled by the cold rinse and aftershave. No issues anywhere else. Pleased overall.

The fact that it clearly says "Fall Scent" on the puck would help a season-shaver like me.

Thanks Joe.....the soap scent comes right through the unscented A.S.(you might say "well, it SHOULD", but in past shaves with the Stoylin Unscented A.S., the latter appears to "outperform" former, if by a little bit. This shows the scent-strength of the A&E).

SOTD TUESDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 14, 2021

Well, the new Katsumi straight razor arrived from Ukraine yesterday. It is Andrey Shpakopsky of Gipson Razor’s homage to the Ryiuchi Saito SK series of razors. As an owner of a Saito SK3, I was intrigued with Andrey’s interpretation. It definitely is much heftier with a thicker grind. The razor weighs in at 86.5 grams with a half hollow grind. It has a blade length of 2. 3/4” and blade width of 14/13, slightly larger than 8/8. It is my largest modern artisan razor, and is one big honkin’ chunk of steel! Andrey stated that both spine and grind construction made this a very challenging build for him.

The mug shave went well, albeit with a much larger razor than I’m typically used to, excepting the Vintage E.A. Poe 8/8 Stubtail. Three passes and I was quite smooth. The razor feels good in hand, and the finish is well done. I enjoyed the shave, but did find the size and heft challenging to work with on my neck. I’ve lately begun collecting little 4/8 Swedish razors, and really enjoy how nimble they are coupled with that wonderful Sandvik (Rockwell 70) steel and the incredibly sharp edges they provide. The noggin shave with the Rex Ambassador ended with its usual two pass ATG dolphin smooth result. I feel cool, clean and very velveteen.

RAZOR: Gipson Katsumi 14/13 (Mug), Rex Ambassador (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Alpha Shaving T-400 Tribute with 26mm Manchurian White Badger Knot
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Canoe EdT and Cremo Cooling Post Shave Balm.

Great shave, Paul! Have you found that you’re enjoying your shaves more when you’re not rating them? Just curious!

Excellent shaves, Jeff! You are officially in the major leagues of straight shaving! Lol! Seriously, I think your respect of the larger razor does affect how you shave your neck. You will get comfortable shaving with it the more you use it. It was a smart move to have a 1/2 grind because I think it is a perfect grind for large razors. When I first shaved with Max, I had some trepidation shaving my neck, but after a few strokes, I was fine because I treat Max like I was using any straight razor. However, that is my experience. I have faith in you because you already got a great shave first time out so it only gets better. Take care.

Thanks, Joe! This is as wide as I’m ever going! The shave was good, but I did have to go through a series of razor gymnastics to get my neck as smooth as I like. Lately, actually, I’m developing a real yen for Swedish 4/8 razors. The Klas Tornblom honed up one of the sharpest edges I’ve ever built. That Sandvik (Rockwell 70) steel is amazing. I now have two other little Swedish 4/8 razors on the way, a Niestrom and a CV Heljenstrand. The steel isn’t quite as hard in these two according to Hans (@lottenhem). Looking forward to receipt. Everyone is so focused on shave hatchet/meat cleavers, that these little Swedish beauties are going for a song!
