Denali/Kai (2). Settings 5/6 5. 4th time the charm. I let the Denali go all 9 innings and it performed well except for a skipping incident going ATG on my head giving me a couple of nicks. While it takes more attention than my top razors results were quite good.

SOTD TUESDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 28, 2021

Today I took the new-to-me JA Hellberg 5/8 Frameback out for a spin. The razor arrived supposedly “shave ready”, and passed the styrofoam peanut test (SPT) easily on both the toe and the heel, but did not do so in the middle of the bevel, interestingly enough. I'm sure it would have shaved just fine as is, but being a bit OCD when it comes to my edges, I decided to take it to my two slates for a touch up.

So I first went to the Imperia LaRoccia which has always impressed me (YMMV) as a great mid-level finisher, particularly with a 600k DMT built slurry. It works beautifully as a preliminary to my 9 Ball Slate which I use with a drop of Smith’s honing oil. That was the case last night. After a bit of focus on the middle of the edge, it passed the SPT. The finish on the 9 Ball focused on the complete bevel. I then burnished on the Jasper and put it through the 4 sided pasted constroption.

The resulting mug shave with this fourth and last of my Swedish razors was excellent, although I’d have to say that the shaves with the CV Heljestrand and Klas Tornblom 4/8 were just a smidge better.The three passes with the Hellberg brought me to the same level of smoothness I’d achieved in two passes with the latter two razors. My noggin shave with the Rex Ambassador was excellent as always. I feel cool, clean and porcelain smooth.

PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil

POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with PAA Frost Byte.

 

Glad the Denali worked well for you today, Jeff. My RA always delivers a fabulous dome shave. When I first bought it, it had problems. Matt Pisarcik repaired it for me on lifetime warranty, which he honored, and it’s been a great shaver ever since.

Happy Tuesday gentlemen. The 1508.5 Project is moving along nicely. I would venture to guess that this tub of soap has about 10 shaves left in it. This will become the fourth soap I have Edmund Fitzgerald this year. I am on target to complete the goal of five.
The Twin Duck has left my face smooth and velveteen following my customary three passes. The two pass dome shave has the clue ball looking rather nice. I do like the Ming Shi for a dome shave due to it’s long handle. I will go back to using the barber shears, which leaves a bit of fuzz, once the shoulder has an improved range of motion and the cooler weather sets in. I do not like a chilled dome.

I had my second post surgery doctor’s appointment. The staples have been removed, the brace does not have to stay on during the day. It needs to be worn when I sleep. Overall, this experience has not been to challenging, pain almost not existent through out the recover. I must be one of the lucky ones. I was able to tie my shoe for the first time since the surgery. Progress
