  2. Very nice setup Troy. I was looking at posts from Jan 2015 and I was surprised to learn that you were a charter member.

SOTD MONDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 4, 2021

Welcome to the fourth day of Open Comb October. The mug shave on this rainy Monday morning featured my Dovo Special. This was my first straight razor, purchased six years ago. The edge when purchased was anything but shave ready. My oldest son reset the bevel and finished it for me, as I did not know my way around a straight razor in those days. After an initial severe mishap on that first shave that revealed my underlying Parkinson’s diagnosis, courtesy of Agent Orange fifty three years ago, it went into a drawer where it stayed for several years, but that’s a story I’ve already told. These days, it serves as a reminder, and is an excellent shaver. Three passes with some additional buffing and flatblading to smooth out the swirly stubble on either side of my Adam’s Apple, and my mug was smooth as glass.

I am so grateful for the three wonderful aluminum handled brushes produced by my friend, Evan (@MrEE) for my use, the latest of which has rapidly become my nominal favorite. Synthetic knots have come a long way, and the 24mm SynBad knot seated in this LE Blue aluminum handle #005 is just an awesome lather generator. My regular MWF pairs beautifully with it. After generating the thinner, more watery face lather, it went on to produce a lovely yogurty texture that was perfect for my noggin. My dome shave featured my favorite Gillette safety razor, the New LC. This little safety razor is one of several New series models, my favorite of all Gillette models. It swept away my noggin stubble in two ATG passes, leaving yours truly glassy smooth from the shoulders up.

RAZOR: Dovo Special 5/8 (Mug), Gillette New LC (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE LE Aluminum Handle #005 with 24mm SynBad Knot
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with PAA Frost Byte AS Splash.

  4. Great shave kit, Troy! I’m not familiar with that safety razor. Do you know when and where it was made? Just curious? Enjoy your day!

  6. Thanks, Joe, how are you feeling? Is the fever gone?
  7. I am feeling much better. I just checked my temp and it is down to 100 degrees. So, that is without popping a Tylenol. I just have a cold. Runny nose, productive cough and I am able to keep food and water down. I never experienced nausea, but was tired. I am just going to relax today. Thanks for inquiring.
  8. Jeff, I don't know when it was made, but it was made in England. I'm not sure if I have the name quite right, my old eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be. It could be Suplex...

Busy, busy weekend with no shaves but man what a shave this morning!

Awesome fine lather as usual this morning. Nice three pass shave with no blood loss. This is the way shaving is suppose to be!

    Take care everyone!

  16. Real good shave this morning. 0;40-45 to load the (Stoylin)soap onto the (Stoylin)brush. The way Doc Ezlovan prepares his soaps that seems like enough time at the loading dock. Solid work shaving the face and neck. No cuts/Knicks. 2 passes. I could have done better at N. Porcupine, but you know what I say-I'll get that tomorrow. Nice work along the jawline(Porcupine-Cactus borderline)especially at the far right by the ear- a small section that has been giving me fits of late. Any Stoylin soap is lovely to work with when done right, but we all know that. Great job with the Bill Neumann(Heartwood). Finished again with Pierre Cardin "male parfum". I'll be nice to myself today and give it a Outta This World Excellent grade.

  17. 3 shaves....thus, if I use canned sophisticated goo 3 days in a row, I could get by with one razor. For soap shave(where I do 2 passes) I just throw it out after the one day. Having said this, I might TRY to do the same one for two soap-shave days(4 passes) to see what happens.
