  3. Using those techniques on SE style handles should yield very good results. Thank you for kind mention of the videos.

  4. It certainly does! The MMOC is like a 'straight razor on a stick'... I prefer the blade rigidity and thickness of the SE blades - I find that it approximates a straight shave more closely than a DE.
    Hope that you're well!

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 8, 2021

This morning felt like a frameback mug shave day. The LeCoultre RT&Cie Frameback 6/8 was manufactured in Switzerland between 1850 - 1860 by the forebears of the great Swiss watchmaking firm of Jaeger & LeCoultre. In a sense framebacks with their replaceable blades foreshadowed the shavettes/barber’s razors of today. The blade steel for this particular razor was quite hard, but did take a very nice edge. Two passes with some additional buffing and flatblading left your happy narrator delightfully smooth.

And since it is OC October what better vintage safety razor for my noggin shave than the incredibly efficient Eclipse Red Ring. This little Sheffield built British razor, while not strictly an OC, but more like a hybrid with the stabilizing bar beneath, was quite innovative for its time. One of the early handle adjustables it also features a magnet at the base of the handle for safely picking up dropped razor blades. I like it because it’s incredibly efficient, and never fails to deliver a very close two pass ATG shave as it did this morning leaving me porcelain smooth from the shoulders up.

RAZOR: LeCoultre RT & Cie Frameback 6/8 (Mug), Eclipse Red Ring (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: Rooney Ebony Pure Badger
    CROAP: A&E Shaving Butter
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with A&E Post-Shave Serum.

    FAT FRIDAY in October!

Colibri (Hummingbird) with 1.3 mm open comb plate.
    Voskhod blade (4)
    Mitchell’s Wool Fat Soap
    Yaqi badger brush
    Cremo Bourbon and Oak EdT

Awesome shave this morning. I had to break out the Fat to stay in Jeff's will. :D Love the Fat. I figured out a trick with the dog bowl. If you just let your brush "ride" the top of the nubs and don't press down too hard it seems to work better.

Very nice three passes with the Colibri that had not been out in a while. Overall a very enjoyable shave.

    Happy Friday everone!

  7. Stando Eagle (Poland), Game Changer 84/Treet Falcons/il Coloniali Mango. I was thinking the Stando was a straight GC clone but not really. The GC has a lot more feedback and is more comfortable. The Stando may be even more rigidly clamped or perhaps it's just the different cap/plate interface that explains the lesser feedback. Stando seems a bit more efficient and less forgiving.[IMG]

  15. Thought yall would find this interesting.

Dscosmetics has a new brush out for $40.00. It has an adjustable loft feature.

An adjustable brush for your adjustable razor.

    Neat idea but I'll pass.
