I have recently acquired a taste for scotch. Can you guys give me some good recommendations for some good scotch to try. I tend to like sweet over smokey but am open for any suggestions.

I'm sure some more experienced than I will chime in soon, but I really like Glenfiddich for a reasonably priced bottle. Johnny Black and Glen Livet is good as well, heck I even like Famous Grouse. I'm hoping for a bottle of Johhny gold for X-mas, the hint has been dropped.

I was promissed a bottle of Johnny Gold for my B-day. I'm still waiting for it. I think my friend has it and just hasn't given it to me yet.

Generally, I find sweet notes from scotches aged in sherry casks.

I do not recall if Glenrothes is aged in sherry casks, but you will love its sweet finish. Fantastic price:value as well.

In single malts I am fond of Glenmorangie 18 year. Its pricey but totally worth it!

I dont think he drank it. I forced him to join a gym over the summer and trained him for a couple months and he lost 20lbs. He owes me. And I pushed him to ditch his crappy jobs and get one real job. So yeah, he owes me.

A good scotch for a beginner is:

Glendronnach 12 y/o - it has a sherry finish and is very approachable while maintaining the complexity that makes the drink interesting

My favorite is Balvenie Single Cask. Laphroaig or Bowmore if you like the smokey Islay scotches.

If you are near a Costco, check out the Kirkland branded Macallan 18-year old sherry cask finish. Pretty amazing stuff for $80 -- as long as you are not snobbish about the label.

Costco. No crap. I hadn't even thought to check there. Brand means nothing to me so long as it tasted good.

Johnnie Walker Blue is nice, but I always come back to Dewars.

any brand of scotch depth-charged into a good glass of beer always does the trick for me ^_^

Not a great fan of the stuff but I do enjoy a sip of Oban, Dalwhinnie or Paddys every once in a while...

I have to support my local Industry.....It's not Scotch....but you should really try some of the Irish Bushmills malts!

+1! I've tried the 10 year and it was very nice. For the price it's one of my favorites.

I'd rather have a pint of Guinness or red ale, but i do have a bottle of Tullamore for Irish COFFEE purposes...i'm such a noob
