Leave the crack alone. As long as it is smooth, and not catching the blade, it is fine. a large majority of the JNATS have these "Non-Toxic" lines.

The stone is from 330Mate as noted, he was at one time picking up stones from the tailings piles at the mines, so no telling which mine it is from. It could be any quality from junk to a jewel. How deep does the line go? Can you show the other end?

Usually with a crack that fine I jusr brush them with a fiberglass brush and go on.

The line is 2/10mm deep, about 1/128 inch so not very deep - I can feel it with my nail. Wich end do you mean (it is laquered on all sides except honing side)

I wanted to see if the crack depth was visible on the other end. If it’s that shallow, there’s no reason not to lap it out.

Nope - can not be seen from the side

Give it a whirl, cracks aren’t always the same depth along the length, but try lapping it a little and see what develops.

This one intrigued me with the two sided hone, rubbing stone and box.

Man made hone on top with three options for the “finishing edge.” Looks like they had a Thuringian, Black Ark or synthetic backing.
This has what looks to be a minimally used 6x2 Thuringian. :)

Should be fun to play with.
    Happy hunting.

Nice Tom, the ‘un-imprinted’ side almost looks natural, is it?

My first dip into the stone pool in a few months, and …..Score! A nice barber size Nakayama kiita from the appearance, and stones that have any real yellow color to them are rare anymore. It’s hard, fine, 27mm thick, and has the characteristic ochre and umber skin patches. Ehat I thought was a c5rack was a scratch that came out in lapping. Very even and pretty complexion, so I’m super happy. It makes silent HHT on diamond plate slurry.

Won this one this morning, big and ugly, but looks like it will clean up well - kind of like me, lol. 200 x 70 x 44, vendor’s images. The auction closed at $124, so it’s the kind of gamble that I favor. No telling what it really is though, but my luck has been good lately.

Congratulations, Steve! Best of luck, hope it works out! At my age I’m sticking with my Shaptons, Choseras, and Suehiro 20k. That coupled with my 8 Ball Slate works well for me! My son and I both own Witte Copperhead razors. We killed our edges prior to resetting the bevels. He’s a jnat guy. I honed mine on my artificial waterstones series, Naniwa 1k, Shapton 5k, Shapton 8k, Naniwa 12k, Suehiro 20k. My son honed his on his jnat series. We each shaved one side of our face with each razor. I could detect no difference! My son claimed he could, and that the jnat edge was superior! Tomatoes, tomahtoes! :D

Gentlemen, I have a severe pain in my lower back, right around the wallet region, but I’m not at all unhappy. This is an Alex Gilmore stone, hoard kiita #2, sold in 2016. I had a chance to buy it from a friend of mine, and it is a truly fine and uncommon stone especially these days. It’s an old rock Nakayama kiita, not super hard (about 5+) but super fine, about 5+++. It’s huge, 210 x 82 x 33mm, and smooth as frozen velvet.
