Work accomplished and new water heater installed yesterday for my parents. Nice shave this morning and while the Fat is slick and leaves the face feeling GREAT I just don't love it or reach for it much. On the fence with it on whether to keep it around as I reduce inventory. It's not the soap, it's me.............sounds like an imminent breakup. 1st pass with the Sextoblade re-scaled just because I had an itch to scratch with it and 2 passes with the Kenyon. Have a great day Folks !

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 29, 2021

Since we’re close to the end of the month I decided to start with my noggin instead of my mug! This morning’s dome shave featured my Leresche 51 Luxe. I’ve been neglecting this superb OC shaver, and was reminded of it by a friend last night who’s considering acquiring one. I own three Leresche razors, a 51, a 61, and a 77. I’ll probably be getting rid of the 61, one of the few three piece safety razors manufactured by the company. It's a good shaver, just not in the same category as the other two. The 51 is one of my finest vintage safety razors. It sheared away my dome stubble in two ATG passes leaving my noggin wonderfully smooth.

Instead of the usual MWF, I pulled out my tub of Wholly Kaw’s King of Oud. It’s a decent soap, but not in the same category as MWF, Castle Forbes, or Nancy Boy. The Viking Silvertip Badger did an excellent job generating the two types of lather I like for my shaves. The post shave feel just isn’t there for me with this soap. The Wade & Butcher 7/8 is another sadly neglected razor in my den. Its Sheffield blade holds a great edge which I touched up last night on the Swaty and constroption. Two and 1/2 passes left me dolphin smooth. BarberDave of the Shaving Cadre forum has moved my straight shaves to a new level of smooth with his flatblading technique.

RAZOR: Wade & Butcher 7/8 (Mug), Leresche 51 Luxe (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: Viking Silvertip Badger
    SOAP: King of Oud
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Cremo Cooling Post Shave Balm.

    Eufros Sandalo Shave Soap
    Jayaruh #41 2-band Badger
    Russian ShaDE
    Personna Injector Blade
    CWR
    Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS

The Eufros Sandalo Shave Soap lathered well with Jayaruh #41 2-band Badger Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Russian ShaDE Razor with a Personna Injector Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

This puck of MWF seems to last forever and a day. It was a nice and comfortable two pass shave, but the blade is definitely on the way out.

    Enjoy your day.

I remember you telling me that open edge shaving isn’t one of your favorite techniques, but you’ve certainly dressed up that Sextoblade, Dave! They are supposed to be great great shavettes! How was the shave?

Jason, I’m with the Maestro on R41 technique. Like him, I have a 2011 model, and find that riding the bar is what helped me turn the corner on irritation with that safety razor.

Great first DE shave. Work to find the most efficient angle and to keep it during the shave---even around the corners. Look into skin-stretching. Keep the touch ultra-light and try to imagine removing the lather---rather than the whiskers.

Besides your consistently great photography, that is one “purty” razor, Jim! How’s it shave?

Thanks Jeff, it is a GREAT shavette and I got a drama free pass. I just don't care for the amount of attention it requires when I'm half asleep in the mornings. Open blades are doable for me but just not my favorite shavers for the experience. When I get the itch I have the Feather and a couple Sextoblades to scratch it. Have great day !

Thanks Jeff. It is an extremely efficient razor -- as in easy does it or there will be blood. ;)

    Friday morning’s Grand Freeze:

    Stirling Mentholated Pre Shave Soap
    Yaqi 30mm Barber Pole Synthetic
    Super Speed/Minora day 3
Stirling Glacial Margaritas in the Arctic SS
    Stirling Glacial Unscented ASB
    Osage Rub AS Splash
    Bleu de Chanel Deodorant Stick
    Bleu de Chanel Parfum

Another super Grand Freeze which felt so good - the Glacial MITA has three times more menthol in it than the regular version which is also a pretty damned cold soap, the scent is the same - a lovely citrusy/tropical type, the lather is so rich, slick as well as mega frigid, and the skincare is perfect. The Glacial Unscented balm and the Osage Rub kept the freeze going strong. Today’s shave was such a delightful three pass BBS work of art!

Have a great weekend - be well and safe!
