    wednesday
    1943 canadian service set
    platinum
    canadian rubberset-original knot
    handsome grouse mint/gaylord mug
    clubman whiskey woods/woodbury bottle

    20211103_125146_edited.jpg

    good afternoon gents.
back from some errands so time for a shave.
third use on the platinum now loaded into the canadian wartime tech.
fabulous grouse face lather with the canadian rubberset boar.
original knot still holding strong with no visible shedding.
smooth 2 passer in the usual way.
very similar to the british tech used for the last 2 shaves.
razor is a touch head heavy due to it's original fat handle.
whiskey woods aftershave caps it off.

    awesome.

I just returned home and decided to do a much needed headshave.
I didn't take a pic of the setup, but here is the list:
Rockwell 6C on the #6 plate (most aggressive)
    Rockwell DE Blade ( 3 ? )
Mr EE LE #10 cashmere synthetic brush with metallic blue handle
    Arko SS
    Stirling Bay Rum AS
    Maggard's Alum Block
    Dome Growth: 3-4 days

I have found that Arko shave soap really gives me the best results for my headshaves. Admittedly, the scent can be off-putting to a significant number of shavers, but I like the clean, fresh Ivory soap smell.
The Rockwell 6C is one of my favorite razors for my headshaves because it is very hard to cut yourself with it. Let's face it, getting a cut on your head just ruins the sly look.
Did WTG, XTG and ATG passes plus touchups that gave me an almost cueball shave. If I had used a fresh blade, then I would have gotten a BBS shave. Hit the dome with the alum and there wasn't any feedback. Did not use the witch hazel because of the great result from the alum. Finished with the Stirling Bay Rum and I just smell nice. Have a great rest of the day guys!

I definitely understand your point. Fortunately, I have a nice collection of different razors and my VDH is on the bottom rung. The VDH brand introduced me to traditional wet shaving so for sentimental reasons I kept this razor. If I didn't get good shaves with it, then I would have jettisoned it from my den. Btw, this razor is my second VDH because the first one fell apart. I am doing this focus with the VDH to try to cut down on the buffing. Anyway, that's my situation with this razor.

Very nice shave, Gary! The razor looks mint! Have many more enjoyable shaves with it!

I'd like to try Gillette Gel or Edge again, but they kind of knock out the scent of whatever aftershave I use. I'd have to find a way to conquer that problem. Stinx.

the simplest solution would be not to use it.;).if you like to use a brush or not,the gillette pure shave cream in the tubes is fantastic stuff and near scentless.a chimp can lather it as well.:)

    Gillette_Pure_Shave_Gel_1000x1000__41920.1624236360.jpg
if you like the canned stuff..no real bad chemicals and no real scent..could be a win win..cheap as chips and available everywhere..:eatdrink047:

    Day 3 Focus Shave
Razor: Merkur 34C (with 2 shims)
    Blade: Feather
    Brush: Yaqi Sagrada Familia
    Soap: Proraso red cream
    AS: Pinaud Lilac Vegetal
    IMG_20211103_195456850.jpg
Mission accomplished. My focus this month is to revisit razors I want to enjoy more and see if a year of experience has improved my DE shaving skills. The Merkur 34C was my very first, and I found it disappointing. During the last two shaves I used 2 shims, and that made all the difference. For me, it cannot perform at its standard blade gap. The only other time it wowed me was with a Kai blade. The extra width of the Kai really woke it up. The 34C still holds sentimental value to me, so I will likely keep it in my collection. I wish I did not have to modify it with shims to get a good shave.

It is very rare for me to use a razor 2 days in a row, 3 days is pretty darn hard. I committed to the 34C for a week, but I just received an elusive baseplate for another razor that I have not been able to master. Tomorrow and Friday I will use what I consider one of the most aesthetically beautiful modern razors on the market today.

I am glad that I guessed right about the Proraso Sandalwood. Lol! I happen to like the Veg and glad that the Veg choose you. Just as a reminder, we are flexible here. Anyone can initiate a rule or focus and in the midst of doing one, but sometimes we get something that we want to use but feel badly because we "committed" ourselves to the rule or focus. Now, I wouldn't recommend it as a steady thing because then one stops the progress of achieving mastery of the razor, etc. Oh and you had a very nice shave tonight, ewk!
