Good luck with that PT, Joe. Sorry about the Knick, but as you described, they can mostly be controlled.

Fantastic Friday shave Joe. I like the brush handle going with the scales of your straight. Have an awesome day!

@brit , my local CVS didn't have that Gillette Unscented(Pure). Shux. Might try a couple other drugstores.

I'm sorry I can't yet produce pictures.....Joe The Chemistry Man gave me until next summer. But as you say next month, I'll "poke around" to see what I can find out(I have an I-Phone For Dummies book).

Very nice shave Paul. I have not experienced MWF, but it can be a pain to lather, especially in hard water.

Paul stated, "I'm sorry I can't yet produce pictures.....Joe The Chemistry Man gave me until next summer. But as you say next month, I'll "poke around" to see what I can find out (I have an I-Phone for Dummies book)."

Now, now, I did give Paul until this summer to start downloading pics. Right now, let's encourage and support Paul to be a super shavemeister.

One of the benefits to participating in the thread is the sharing of the progression in our wet shaving journey. I have been wet shaving off and on since my teen years, however, daily for the past four years.. I am older than diet so we are talking about 45 years ago.

Given that I have time on my hands due to my recent acceptance into the MOLC, I have decided to expand my experience by delving into the straight razor restoration area. For our newer members that would be the Men of Leisure Club.

Recently, I picked up a A. Witte Solace 9/16ths off of the Bay for $6. Usually, I would send my razor out to the Spa in Sandpoint, Idaho. Not this time. I plan on giving it a shot myself.

Here is the razor prior to disassembly.

Disassembled with the tools I used to facilitate the process.
Prior to removal of the pins I placed painters tape over the pin so that the file would not scratch the scales.
Following the filing of the head of the pin, I used the mail puncher to lightly tap out the pin. Really not a difficult process if you remember to be gentle while taking your time so you do not inadvertently crack the scales. 593D3A9D-8E72-4159-A661-E526C162470F.jpeg
Picture of just the scales, wedge and razor. I am not sure you can notice in the pictures but the scales have a green tinge to them. Prior to disassembly the appeared black.

What to you think of this Jeff, @jgreenepa?

More updates to follow over the next few weeks.

I will always encourage Paul in his shave journey. I am just encouraging him to step out of his comfort zone albeit a little sooner than he probably would like.

No worries Paul. Just trying to encourage you to step out of your comfort zone. I know you will find a way when the time is right

Joe, the reason I called you "The Chemistry Man" is that for some reason I couldn't tag you on here. @Trigger.....and now I just did it. That was weird.

I realize that, but he has been procrastinating for many years and I wanted him to have a comfortable deadline. Trust me! I will be on Paul by the beginning of April. He needs to be fully prepared to do this so I just gave him a long enough rope.

You see. You are capable of learning something new in using technology. BTW, you can tag anyone. Just type @ and immediately type the screen name of the person you want to tag exactly as it appears beneath their avatar. I am tagging you Paul @Paul Turner.

Second night with the Karve. If I were smart, I would not have shaved tonight. The preshave soap I used last night caused a tremendous amount of irritation. Unknown to me, there was some gritty sandpaper like element in it that really roughed up my skin before the shave. My neck was quite red most of the day today. All that is testimony to the gentle efficiency of the Karve. Had I used a more aggressive razor, I might have done real damage. Any irritation last night was due to that soap, not the razor. The soap is in the trash.
    IMG_20211105_193832961.jpg
I washed my face with a generous amount of Noxzema, then applied a thin layer as preshave. The Karve D plate got me a darn fine shave in only two passes. I did not want to risk reigniting the irritation. The razor provides such a smooth and comfortable shaving experience, much like the Rockwell.

Head shaving requires a higher level of blade feel. I switched to the E plate for shaving the dome. Another smooth and comfortable two pass affair. A few touch ups left me with a BBS bowling bowl finish. However, there were two significant nicks, one behind the left ear and one bad one on the center of the back of the head. I felt it bite a fold of skin each time. I have not used the Karve on the dome very much, and I am not certain at this point I am willing to try to master it as I have options that work much better for me.

Enjoy the weekend folks. I will not be shaving again until Sunday night.
