Nice shaves Ewk! Years ago, men shaved with Noxema cream. I have used it as a preshave to make an uber lather with another siao and I have used it alone to get good shaves. I have used the Muhle R41 (very aggressive) on my dome and didn't have a problem. Again, it all depends on your skin and hair type. Whether you use a mild or aggressive razor, the most important thing is to have a great shave without errors.

Very cool, Joe! I’ll follow the restoration with great interest. I wish I could do the same, but the arthritis in my hands prevents it! If you’re older than dirt, I’ve got you by at least a decade! What does that make me? Don’t answer! :D

Hey Jeff! You have done well straight shaving so there's no need to go into restoration. Besides, I am sure your son can do all the restorations on your razors so you are quite fortunate in that regard. It sounds like you are doing well my friend. Take care.

    Bowl Lather.
Bowl: Home Bargains Stainless Steel Side Bowl.
Lather: Pearlman shaver's Spirit Shaving Soap.
Blade: Indian Gillette 7'oClock SP.( D1)
    Razor: Parker 98r.

    Post:
Cold water Face wash with brush squeezings, Cold Water Face Rinse. /Homemade (~Autumn/Winter mix~) peppermint lavender, eucalyptus, + Tea Tree essential Oils Mixed Together With 200ml of Care+Witch Hazel./P&G Old Spice Swagger ASL./Cien Sensitive ASB.

    Greetings,

A new shave set up to start the weekend... Continuing with my month focusing on using the Parker 98r..like all of my parker razors it has a nice heft the long handle has a decent grip without the fear of it slipping when shaving, you get a great audio feedback....I must be honest and say my first few shaves with the 98r where not a pleasurable experience i found it quite big and awkward and thought i had bought it on impulse and was too aggressive for me and wasn't sure if it was for me, but with patience, learning my technique & gaining shaving confidence it became a razor which i felt comfortable to use...It's well balanced out enough between the razor head and handle and the hefty weight like all my Parker razors is a bonus and has taught me to use the razor without adding hardly any pressure while shaving rewarding me with some sublime shaves...Learning your technique & gaining shaving confidence is the key to comfortable error free shaves.

A enjoyable 2 pass + pick ups close comfortable shave with no errors to report...Finishing to the shave off with a small dollop of Cien Sensitive ASB.

My face is feeling silky smooth & smelling divine.;)

Stay safe, and enjoy the start of the weekend ladies & gentlemen.

Fine shave this morning. 0:45 at the loading dock with the Sir Hare Alpha(Sandalwood&Tobacco). Nice work everywhere-no cuts and one small Knick that was easily controlled by the aftershave. I must say this about the Sir Hare soap-it remains nice and moist after each shave, so you'd think you don't need as much the next time. After the 0:45 load, I lightly doused it with water for a few seconds. A little extra time going up NW Porcupine Alley-which has become the most sensitive area to shave. I guess that's why you see many men with mustaches-they gave up on their N. Porcupine Allleys. Good shave down at Cactus Nation. Stoylin Unscented aftershave , followed by Pierre Cardin to finish. Fresh, clean, smooth, and ready for the day. Outta This World Excellent.

Excellent shave Barry! You hit the nail on the head and we constantly say it on this thread, "Technique trumps tools". A mistake that I have seen from other shavers and myself is that we assume that we can shave the same way with every safety razor. Of course that is not true because we have to account for the geometry, blade gap and exposure and the blade itself. As you know, I am shaving with the VDH and I had to make an adjustment to make the angle of attack a little steeper than I normally use. On the other hand, if the razor is too efficient, then use a shallower angle. Bottom line: As long as a razor is not defective, it's your technique that needs adjusting not the razor, unless you have an adjustable razor. LOL! Enjoy your afternoon!

Awesome shave Paul! The mustache area is one of the most troublesome spots because the skin is very sensitive and most shavers usually knick themselves above the lip.
I used to do the fool's pass which is going in the direction of south to north. I stopped doing it because I would get weeps every so often. Now, I lightly go across and go north to south and I get a great result in the stache area. Enjoy your day!

    Good morning guys!

Van der Hagen TTO razor (4th mini focus shave)
    Astra Blue DE Blade (1)
    MrEE Tuxedo Brush
    Cella SS
    Old Spice AS
    Maggard's Alum
    DIckinson's WH
    Beard growth: 41 hrs

    20211106_094934~2.jpg

I was in the mood for a Cella shave. This soap is easy to lather. It is very slick. I had to rinse off my brush during the shave because I kept dropping the brush! That was a first for me. Lol!
I decided to use a new Astra blade because the old blade started to feel a little spent at the end of my previous shave. Why mess around trying to get more shaves on a blade at the expense of having a subpar shave?
I have to say that I believe I have this razor dialed in because I got the best shave with the least amount of effort. Two passes without touchups gave me a nice, close, comfortable shave. For a mild razor, it did a great job moving my 41 hrs beard. This mini focus with the VDH razor has enlightened me because maybe I do not need to go to the max settings on my adjustable razors to get a close shave as well.
On the post shave, the alum provided very little stinging. Afterwards, I applied the witch hazel to comfort my skin. I splashed on the Old Spice to top this shave to continue the barbershop theme. Have an awesome day!

    Brush: Classic Shaving Silver Blue
Lather: Los Jabones de Joserra Gredos
Aftershave: Los Jabones de Joserra Gredos
    Additional Care:
    Nivea Cool Balm
    Stirling Alum Block
    Thayer’s Witch Hazel - Original

Fabulous Saturday morning shave. The Los Jabones de Joserra Gredos scent profile is as follows: A delectable gourmand creation where a dash of dark bourbon combines with rich fruity nuances. It is a nice scent, however, with the splash not very long lasting.

The silver tip Badger easily whipped up a nice lather. The TI, my first straight razor, delivered a comfortable close shave. I am smelling good, albeit subtle, while observing my son’s soccer game.

Hope you have a great day gentlemen.

Thanks Joe....Not only did I like the shave, but I also liked seeing the moistness remaining in the tub afterward.
