which one? And I saw a good French movie this weekend: Ils (english title= Them). Good suspenseful movie. Competently directed and genuinely scary in a couple spots without resorting to gross outs or jump cuts.
I saw Star Trek very recently. I enjoy some of the shows and a few of the movies, but wouldn't consider myself a big Star Trek fan, but this new movie was excellent. They did an excellent job of acknowledging the past while clearing the slate to start fresh. I hope the next movie is as entertaining, or better.
Saw "angels & demons" on sunday and I really liked it. I've never read the book so I can't agree on it being too long, too unsurprising or anything like that. 4/5
+1 on your take. Aside from Kirk getting beat up every ten minutes or so I thought it was a fun take on the Star Trek mythos. I saw it in an IMAX theater which I highly recommend. Nathan
I watched "Hide and Seek" with Robert De Niro and Dakota Fanning. Not a bad suspense film, but I wouldn't got out of my way to see it. I had to laugh though. The father/daughter dialog was taken verbatim from our house.
Over the past week I've seen: 1. Angels and Demons Not too bad, thought it was better than The DaVinci Code 3.5/5 2. Taken I actually liked this movie. Yes, it was unbelievable , BUT I really liked the fact that the dad got EVERYONE. Don't leave those bad guys to come after you later, get em now!! Plus, Liam Neeson is cool. (Remember Next of Kin?? lol) 4/5 3.Terminator Salvation WOW!! You have to see this one on the big screen. I really didn't want to like this movie after the infamous "Bale breakdown." But it was excellent. Check this one out, a great summer blockbuster. 4.5/5 Sometimes I want to unplug and just WATCH a movie. All three of these provided that. ADD fed, I'm happy!! -Greg
Frost/Nixon. A very good drama. Not knowing anything about the movie before watching it I was thinking, "ok, they're gonna reenact all the interviews? How boring." But that wasn't it at all. It was more a behind the scenes look at how the whole interview got put together, and how it could have been derailed all along the way. The interviews themselves only took up less than a 1/4 the movie and were intense scenes. Superb acting and directing by the cast/crew. If you like political dramas then check this one out. 4.5/5 btw anybody else have the opinion if it wasn't for Ron Howard, his brother Clint would be collecting food stamps or something??? That dude gets a bit role in every movie big brother does.
Wasn't Clint in "Gentle Ben" as a child? I seen Night at the Museum 2 yesterday. Clint had a bit part in that. That poor man is homely!! -Greg btw, you're right he ONLY has a career b/c of Ron
Frost/Nixon - watched it last night with my sweetheart. Not a great date movie. Awesome documentary! One of the best movies I've seen in a very long time. I've never seen a bad Ron Howard film. Saw Star Trek in the theater Saturday evening. Wow! The BEST movie I've seen in many years! Did everyone spot the Tribble?
watched Night at the Museum 2 Saturday, surprisingly good and entertaining, kids loved it. My son's favorite part was the Darth Vader scene Mine was any part Amelia Earhart was in I was really apprehensive about what the plot could be, but I thought they did a good job
I'm trying to watch The Spirit. Only 25 minutes in and it's flat out horrible. Piss poor acting, piss poor story, and terrible visuals. Sure they attempted to capture some of the magic of Sin City, but it's a complete miserable failure. Is there a point to this awful movie or am I doomed to piss away another hour or more waiting for something to happen?
I've been hitting the DVD's hard since I've lost Television with the digital switchover. Thank goodness for Redbox! The curious case of Benjamin Button: 5 stars, great story and awesome effects. Doubt: 3.5 Forgetting Sarah Marshall: 5 stars. What a great comedy and Mila Kunis topless... WOW! Marley and Me: 4 would have been 5 if Jennifer Aniston took her top off. Grand Torino: 2.5 out of 5. Sad that this may be Clint's last acting and directing job, very weak. Quantum of Solace: 3 Get Smart: 3.5, not bad Taken: 3 Defiance: 3.5, great story
I have to agree on the way they cleaned the slate and opened the door to the future. I wouldn't call myself a Trekky even though I have seen a lot of Star Trek over the years myself. I was worried that they would mess this movie all up, I was very surprised and happy.
I've been checking out two different British TV series on the Netflix streaming video box: The Tudors (Showtime) and The Hotel Babylon (BBC???) Both are very British which means great writing, biting satire and dry wit. I love it. The Tudors is about King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn of course. Sex, politics and intrigue in the English court. The Hotel Babylon is sort of a jazzed up Love Boat for the 21st century set in a hotel. Not campy or cheesy like LB, but similar in that it follows the trials and tribs. of a 5 star hotel staff. It's basically an adult soap opera, but well done. If British entertainment is your thing, I recommend both.
I have to agree. It's one of the best movies I've seen in ages. Can't hardly wait for the next one. My son (21) and I watched Gran Torino about a week ago. Wow, what a great movie that is. We're both big Clint fans; this is one of his best.
What! Marley and Me: 2.5 out of 5. Sad that this may be Clint's last acting and directing job, very weak. Grand Torino: 4 would have been 5 if Jennifer Aniston took her top off. ...there, fixed. Whew!
Second that. Gran Torino was awesome. People haven't the faintest idea of what men go through in combat. And nobody's dog should run their lives like that.
OK, OK. It was a good story, typical Clint. I was just disappointed in the editing and direction. That and the girls performance was amateurish at best. Not even in the same class as "Million Dollar Baby" IMO, that was a great movie all around.
